are you breast feeding cause if you are than half that extra weight is milk to feed the baby. If your not than it can still take some time. Breast feeding produces hormones that helf the uterus shrink back to it's normal size and hence you lose weight faster. Sometimes it depends on the birth control you are on. When I went on depo after my first I gained weight but I didn't get the next shot and I lost it again. My second breast fed I lost the weight within a few weeks. I am told this is not normal, but the same happened with my third. I just wish I could have kept some of the cup size. If you are only 4 weeks postpartum then I wouldn't even stress it if at 12 monthes your not back to normal than you could talk to a doctor.
More concerning be sure you are checking that you are not suffering from PPD-post partum depression. It's common and nothing to be ashamed about. http://www.postpartum.net/

I gained 38 pounds with both of my children. With my first it took about 10 months to loose it all, and the last ten pounds actually took a lot of effort. With my daughter I was down to the last ten pounds in six weeks because I recovered from that labor so much more quickly, but then I actually gained more weight back. When she was 4 months old I radically changed my diet to not-mozzarella sticks and hot wings as a midnight snack every day and started eating whole grains and many more vegetables and began to exercise regularly. You know, all that stuff we're supposed to do all the time anyway. In six months I lost 30 pounds, gained a bunch of muscle (I have abs! I had no idea) and was healthier than I had ever been. My point is--try to do your best with your diet, get some exercise, and be easy on yourself. It took you 9 months to gain your weight. It's normal for it to take a while to come off.

I gained about 43 lbs with my first and it took me about 4 months to lose it all, by month 5 i lost 50 all together.
I have always heard that the first 6 months is the time to really lose the baby weight and any time after that is the hardest because it's been on you longer.
Exercise, water and eating low carb helped me get back in shape. Also taking care of a new born and getting use to all the life changes really keeps you on your feet.
I think so far your doing really well, keep it up:)

Before my son : 135, after 170, lost only 15 of it then got pregnant with my daughter when my son was only 11 months.
She's now 11 months . The day I had her I weighed in at 208 ( I'm 5'7") and today I weigh 159. I'm still trying to get down to at least 145. I'm walking and dieting and liftting weights and doing cardio and pilates. It's taking tons of time and commitment, but I really love my clothes and want to wear them again.
good luck!

Think of it like this... it took 9 (almost 10) months for you to gain the weight. It is reasonable to take just as long to loose it.
You and I are within a few pounds of the same story, and with my first baby it took me just over a year to loose all of the weight I gained. Yes, I nursed my son, and I am sure that helped, but...
Basically, most of the weight was gone within 4 months of delivery, but I actually had to watch my diet and get up off my lazy rear end to loose that last few pounds.

If you are breastfeeding it shouldn't take long at all! You should lose the weight and then some if you breastfeed. Many women say that's how they lost all their baby weight. Good Luck!

I took me 6 weeks to loose the 40lb I gained after having twins (actually I lost an extra 10lb by then). I put it down to the fact that I went for very long walks with them in the pram, probably 4 hours every day. I also breastfed them, I don't know if that made a difference...

I think my statue of limitation has run out for saying "i just had a baby" - my youngest is turning three! I'm still hanging on to a good 20 pounds that I gained over the course of having three kids..... but I haven't done much to lose it frankly.

With my first daughter I was back to normal within 2weeks.
With my second it was about a month.
I didnt excercise or do anything special, I just breastfed.
But I was young and I think that had alot to do with it as well.
After that I continued to loose weight due to breastfeeding, I became underweight.
I know with my Aunt it takes a year before her body returns to normal. Everyone is different.

I gained 25 pounds with both of my children, and both times I lost all but one pound before I came home from the hospital. Yes, I breastfed. However, even though I lost all of the pounds I had gained, my hips and waist never did go all the way back to normal. I ended up changing from a size 10 to a size 12 permanently.
