A best player is that who performs in any given condition and especially, when their is pressure.
So my best three are:
1. Ricky Ponting (Most mentally tough guy around)
2. Kevin Peiterson ( Plays heroic innings under pressure )
3. Shane Bond ( Tremendous skills!! Swings the new ball both ways, arguable the only bowler in the world to do so)
Sachin would have been first on the list, if he could play in pressure times, but his performance is pathetic when the team needed him most)

to me the best cricket player in the world cup is 1.Lasith Malinga, 2. Jacque Kallis & 3. Ricky Ponting. Malinga is most underrated cricket player in the world.
