My sliding glass door to my back yard has scraches all over the bottom of it (dog marks) and need to either find some chemical to remove them or just replace the glass pane all together.

I guess the other people don't have dogs. Might sound kind of dumb but, instead of replacing the glass, they have a solution for eyeglasses to fill/cover scratches, probably get it at a drug store. for a few bucks. I think it might be worth trying before replacing the glass. You might also try the auto parts store I think there is a similar product for windshields.
Let me know if it works, I have some scratched up sliders too.

Your dog has nails hard enough to scratch glass? Wow. If you're thinking about getting the glass replaced, and it's double pane insulated glass, it's all one piece now. The two panes are fused together along the edges with some sort of gas in between, that doesn't transmit heat or cold. It's a very expensive repair unless the door is non-functional. You might consider getting a brass kick plate that normally would be installed on the lower portion of an entry door and put it on the glass with some spray adhesive. Maybe do both sides to cover the scratching from both views. Other than that you're looking at a major expense.

If the scratches can't be removed, you will have to replace the whole glass unit. The double panes are sealed together at the edges and the space between is filled with argon gas which prevents heat transfer from one side to the other.

Try a cleaner called Kaboom. It is a good heavy duty multi-purpose cleaner. If the door was clean the scratches probably wouldn't be noticeable.

I would NOT try to replace the pane of glass myself. The pane you will need will be about 28" or 30" by about 6 feet tall. The glass to meet code requirements will have to be extra strength or plate glass. It will be both heavy and bulky to handle and will have sharp edges where you will be trying to handle it or carry it.

Call around to glass replacement companies and get an estimate with you bringing the door in and one with them coming out to fix it.

don is kinda wrong on the type of glass. its tempered. it will shatter in small squares. you could take apart the door then take a razor knife to cut the sealant holding it in to remove it. thats one thing i wouldnt do to a sliding glass door.

buying the replacement might be a waste of money if its an old door. but call around to the large glass companies in the yellow pages and get some prices

you cant--- the space between the two panes of glass is sealed with a special gas so they wont fog up. you need to replace the whole unit.

It's not possible, and not worth the trouble to even try. Why not get hold of some jeweller's rouge and try to polish the glass. By the way, I doubt if your dog's nails are hard enough to scratch glass.
