I had been to San Diego last year x 2 months. I had bought 2 maps prior to going there, however, both are incomplete, I bought a 3rd one and it is too small to be read by the visible eye. The reason! San Diego is so spread out! I only appreciated San Diego when I took a trolley ride. Ride all cars and explore San Diego! There are buses in most trolley stations. It is like touring the whole of San Diego! Caution when parking your car! My friend parked his car over at Ralphs at National City and came back with broken glasses.

Dont ever miss the last American exit in San Ysidro! There is an outlet store there. Be careful when going to Tijuana. Residents are afraid of going there! I didnt bother!

Dont ever miss the Coronado bridge it is one of the tallest in the world! Did you know that it had won an award because of its structure? It really gives an expectacular view of the place. See Hotel Coronado which is not only one of the most beautiful in the USA but in the world as well.

My first stop at San Diego was at the Mariott's Hotel overlooking the Harbor view. My cousin's husband really got the best room with the best view!

Dont miss the view also of Oceanside! For the top 10 attractions in San Diego I suggest that you visit yahoo travel, go to travel guides then click San Diego. On the bottom of the page are the top 10 attractions with their websites while on the upper most part of the page, see the slideshow of San Diego.

What I suggested are the best I can think of which you cant find in websites, these are personal experiences which I think some people often miss out!

What everyone else has already said are great suggestions and definately worth visiting. In addition I would also check out Mission Beach and Pacific Beach, two of the most popular areas in San Diego during the summer and they are right next to SeaWorld. Torrey Pines State Park is also a great place to go to the beach and hike around some cliffs and stuff. The Gaslamp Quarter is a great place to go out at night for bars and clubs and a great place to eat dinner too.

The San Diego Zoo is a must see. Also check out the shopping in La Jolla and Coronado Island. Stay at the Hotel Del Coronado if you can afford it.
