Absolutely agree with Lana, having done this, steel wool totally removes any sticky residue from jam & jelly jar labels; I'd soak them first just like everyone says to soften the labels, & that wool just wipes it right off, practically zero "elbow grease". I've done this with six-sided jelly jars, long tubular olive jars, etc, & no scratches from the steel wool on the glass.

Good old alcohol, the kind in your medicine cabinet, will take off the sticky residue from just about everything. I would soak the jar first to get the label off and then use the alcohol for any stick glue that won't come off.

Soak them in hot water for about half an hour, then peel as much of the paper as you can off easily. Then put them in the dishwasher and let the dishwasher work its magic.

Gloria is right, give her the points. That's what I do to remove labels from beer and wine bottles. Soak in hot water with dishwashing detergent.

If soaking in soapy water doesn't work, try steel wool. If that doesn't work try methylated spirit (paint stripper), but wash it off well with detergent afterwards & rinse well of course.
