This is the best way. Go west on I-40 to I-30, then take I-30 west to Dallas (actually Mesquite on the east side of Dallas), turn south on I-635, then turn on I-20 and continue west on I-20 to Abilene. Stop at Weatherford and eat at the Iron Skillet. It's a bit higher than McDonald's, but the food is excellent. Do not stop at Texarkana unless you need gas.
There is a McDonald's and a couple of other joints just south of I-30 at the first Mt. Pleasant exit.

Probably I-30 through Dallas and link up with I-20 on the other side of Fort Worth, lots of construction on I-20 west.

Click on the website below and type in your point of departure and where you want to go. It will give you precise directions on what route to take, which you can print out and take with you. It will also allow you to factor in several side excursions if you need to. Good luck. Enjoy Abilene. It's a nice place to visit or live.

If you can't fly, can't take a bus, can't hitch a ride, then how about walking?
