the placebo effect. A person sincerely believes a medicine will heal them, and this belief becomes manifest.

I would recommend for you yo read "The Biology Of Belief" by Dr. Bruce Lipton. Incredible book.

I agree with the first response. It could be a placebo effect. I have been reading on this as well in Dr. Weil's book Health and Healing.

The mind is connected to the body. It does not matter what type of treatment the patient is undergoing, if he/she believes it will help them or cure them... the mind can inhibit the body's own healing abilities. This is not the case for everyone, though, as we each are biologically different.

A good example is warts. There are a lot of old folk remedies to "curing" warts or making them fall off. One I heard was lemon juice, another was to rub a raw potato on the wart and bury the potato near a tree, a bizarre one I read was to steal something out of a refridgerator w/o getting caught. Now... the possibility of making warts fall off due to a specific chemical or agent in a lemon or potato is highly unlikely. Possible, but no one wants to spend thousands of dollars in research to see if a component in a potato will really make warts disappear. And what about stealing something out of a fridge w/o getting caught and having your wart fall of the next day? How can we explain these things? It really stems from belief. Again, the mind is connected to the body.

I hope this makes sense.... it's a little hard to explain. Dr. Weil goes through it in his book making very clear and concise sense. It's a must read for everyone. Hope this gives you some insight.
