The book you're looking for is "Coraline" by fantasy writer Neil Gaiman. She is a little girl who moves into an old house with her parents that has been partitioned into apartments and travels through a walled-off door into a kind of "mirror-world", where everything looks the same except all the people have buttons for eyes.
Very eerie and disturbing novel by one of the best fantasy writers out there.

The Phylllis Reynold Naylor books? It's called the Boy's against Girls or something. The little sister's name is Caroline Malloy and she just moved into a new house.
