That all depends on which theory of time travel you cling to.
Time travel is allowed, for example, in some multiple universe theories. But if you consider what a minute fraction of universes get to the point where time travellers are produced, it makes the odds of one happening into your universe small indeed (depending on the number of universes involved, of course).
In some theories of this kind having a traveller show up is enough to CREATE a new branch. Thus if you happen to live in a timeline that eventually produces a traveller, you will never ever see travellers until one is produced.
Likewise, even if you believe in one-dimensional time, then presumably paradoxes cannot occur. Thus a time-traveller can never show up unless major conditions roll on as normal to cause the time-traveller to come into existance in the future. So any amount of time travelling in this scenario that actually occurs can never make a significant difference from the original world which never had time travellers (yet). So nobody would know (nobody important, at least).
Most theories of physics which currently allow time travel do not allow travel back to a time before the creation of the time machine as well. So it may also be possible that proof and achievement will be simultaneous - the second the apparatus is complete someone from the future walks out.
All in all, there's not necessarily any reason to absolutely believe time travel is completely impossible yet... but I have to agree that it's not looking too likely. Still.... stranger things have happened...

time travel is possible I don't know way so many think it isn't. both forward and backwards time travel have been proven possible. Einstein has already been show to be wrong on a whole range of things in physics.
people keep on learning and I believe that anything a human can imagine can be come a reality some day. the universe is vast and we haven't even gotten off our own little world yet. so lets save the 'impossibles' to the people 2-3 thousand year in the future

Time travel is most likely possible in the spiritual realm because there is no such thing as time in the spiritual side of reality.
Quantum physics will continue to TRY and prove or disprove the ability to travel in and out of time.....but I don't think they will ever do so. Our human brains are limited.

Time travel backward would have to do with the study of memory and in that sense , yes it would be so.

You are right. Time travel backwards is impossible and therefore it can not be proven.
