1) both. Risk of Toxic Shock Syndrome (build up of a possible toxic bacteria in the body which could cause death if it occurs)with tampons so I only use them once and a while (when I go out). I use pads around the house and NO risk of TSS with pads.
2) ultra thin during day, thicker at night
3) wings wings wings!
4) any brand (which ever is cheaper/ on sale. All brands are similar and store brands are usually exactly the same as the brand)
5) same with tampons. I buy the cheapest, usually the store brand because they all work about the same.

Tampon's at night. Pads during the day. Tampons when you are wearing a dress or skirt too.
Ultra thin so you don't feel bulky.
Wing so no spills.

Pads smell and are uncomfortable and they never stay in place for me so I end up bleeding all over everything anyway. I use only tampons and occasionally a panty-liner.

pads are always best with tampon your at risk to get toxic shock syndrome so be careful the best are always pads their uber reliable ultra thin w/ wings
