It's definently a hyped up theory just like Global Warming. Don't worry about it too much though. Just go on with your life like you were as the Earth will go through it's changes no matter what.

it isn't only achieveable, it is going to take position. The question is an argument of time. The Earth is going by large climate swings from warm to chilly. there became slightly ice age in Europe in the course of the middle a at the same time as. the subsequent ice age will maximum in all probability no longer take position for 1000's of years because the planet is in a warmth section. at the same time as it takes position, that's absolutely not like interior the movie. it will be a lengthy, sluggish technique of cooling which will take 1000's of years. purely in video clips do climates shift in one day. nationwide Public Radio did a narrative about the undesirable technological awareness in the back of that movie. that's on their internet web site in genuine participant format (link below).

What the film showed was a possible effect of a disruption to the North Atlantic Drift (the Gulf stream). Theoretically, it is possible. It was probably exaggerated for effect in the film though.

PS You have misunderstood, as many people do, the word "theory". You can't say "if it's just theory ". Look it up in a scientific dictionary.

It has happened 17 times in the last 2 million years. There is no reason to suppose it won't happen again. We weren't there so it is just a theory, but it is pretty much universally accepted by science that there have been several recent glaciation periods.

The abrupt end of the Gulf Stream would only serve to leave Europe facing the same temperatures as countries on the same latitude. EG. much of the UK would be snowed under as in Canada. As far as complete obliteration of the northern hemisphere goes, I think thats just film propaganda at work and its just been overexaggerated to bring in the money.

It is just theory, otherwise the US government would be dumping large quantities of salt in the ocean. As I recall change in weather came from decreased salinity due to the melting polar ice caps.

it's not definite that that's going to happen, but it's definitely a possibility. there are so many possible consequences of global warming that any of them could happen some day, we just don't know which one will come first. But don't get me wrong, the movie was definitely highly fictionalized.

The movie is a bit of an overstatement. Ice ages happen over thousands of years and not over a week.
