sure new words are being created every day! just ask 1 of the salesman i work with. he comes up with words that nobody has ever heard of before! now i don't think they are actually words he just has a lot of trouble talking.

They are invented all the time, and the major dictionary (Oxford English Dictionary) is the authority, I think, on deciding when a word has come into "common usage" and should be included in the dictionary.

New words are being invented all the time, but they are not generally accepted until the major dictionaries decide that they are widely-used and thus deserve to be listed.

New words are always being created and added to the dictionary as time goes on. look at new technologies and medical science cures that are coming along. new tech words in the last few years have been blog, blogging, web sites, ajax scripting, cold fusion output, etc... or random ones that unibrow and Google (redefined).... i think miram webster has a list of new words added to the dictionary each year. below is an article from last year talking about new words.

The newest edition of the complete dictionary has over 500,000 words in it. By the time the next edition is completed there will probably be a million. language is alive and growing.

new words are being created every day. a recent one i know of is 'truthiness' , by steven colbert of 'the colbert report' ....websters put it in their new dictionaries
