I like all of the names you have listed! I probably like Xander and Grant the most though! I do prefer the name Blake to Drake as well. Dexter is also a great name, very uncommon and strong.

Wow, great list! I think these names fit in with what you are looking for well.

My opinions:
Dante- <3 this name. It's an old favorite of mine
Drake- This might be my least favorite, but still okay.
Xander- Very nice
Grant- Nice
Dexter- Not my style, but okay. I'd prefer it in the middle name spot.

Overall, I like Dante & Xander best.

How about Kyle? I think it sounds nice with King, and it's not too trendy or old-fashioned, and it's also not so very unusual that people will misspell it or mispronounce it. Of the names you have listed, I think Dexter is nice. he could be Dex for short!

For associations you may try to spell check the names.
Dante--Dante Alighieri
Drake--Mandrake
Xander Short form of Alexander
Grant--given for free
Dexter--dextrose
These are my associations with the names.
I would suggest you wait a bit. When the child is born the name will pop by "itself"--old wives tale-- each soul comes with a name or matches the name already chosen before birth.

Basic rules on names:

1. Choose a name you can shout easily, because that will come in useful during child-rearing years.
2. Your kid's early school mates will give them a nickname based on their name, and it's usually a shortened form of their name. Don't make it too easy for them - names like Aston, for example, are out.
3. Your kid's going to have to live with this name for the rest of their life. So think about something which they won't mind putting on their business card.

I'd be critical of a name like "Xander King", sounds a bit like a galactic overlord :-) Grant sounds cool, Dante and Drake are a bit of stretch. Dexter's wayy too easy to make fun of.

May I suggest, "Taden".

Xavier It's similar to Xander but people won't think it short for anything else ! How about Greydon.
Do you have a interesting maiden name ? If you do you could use that for his first name. It's a old southern tradition.

Please skip Drake ... It's a male duck.

I have to say that out of your whole list, the only one I like is Xander. What about Kaleb, Jackson (Jaxon), Jarrad, Jai, Tomas or Elih. My sons name is Deegan which I love to bits! Hope this helps, I know how hard it is to pick a name, I am desperate for one for my 4th child, due in November but I guess I have plenty of time to figure it out!

Drake, Xander, Grant, Dexter - all nice - not fond of Dante.

My favourite of them all is Xander.

I like how you have found strong masculine names that aren't all that popular and won't lead to shorten versions of the names that you might not be fond of.
