You can get this stuff called ODO-Ban. You have to saturate the spot pretty good, but it works. You can also go to a carpet cleaner and get a product that enzyme cleans the area. But if the urine got all the way to the sub floor the only way to completely and forever get it out would be to pull up your rug, spray Killz on it (or even paint over it to seal it) replace your padding and possibly the carpet. Odo-Ban worked the best for us though without having to replace the carpeting.
Good Luck! Hope this helped.

Shampooing, as you already learned, is a waste of time and effort.

Sometimes it is not the carpet that retains the smell, but the underpad, and, in other cases, it is in the floor.

The flloor will likely be wood and using a straight liquid bleach is your best bet. Open a window and put in a fan to exhaust the fumes, then pour it on straight. It will bubble and froth, then turn white. When it stops you should let it sit longer anyway, so that it seeps into the wood and get the urine below the surface. This is not good for the appearance of the wood, but if it will not be seen again it does not matter.
Pour water on it when ready, then vacuum it all up. Use more water , vacuum, and let it dry.

Bleach is also effective on underpadding, but be very sure you get all of it out. That means rinsing it several times.

For the carpet your first choice should be to pay a visit to a veterinarian or a good pet store and explain the problem.

They may have several products available to do the job, depending on where you are. Try to learn what your carpet is made of, as they might have specialized products that will work better than others on your carpet.

Some urine removers/blockers are more effective than others, which is why you want to ask their advice, but you should be aware that in some carpets the urine will bind with the chemical composition of the carpet, and lock itself into the material.

If this should apply to you then the best you can hope for is to reduce the smell and/or appearance initially and wait for more to disappear over time, as the only option left is to replace the carpet.

There is nothing worse then the smell of piss. Any kind. If there is somewhere in your house with the same carpet and in a cupboard or somewhere you don't see, you can always cut a piece out of the good carpet and get rid of the pee carpet.

Nature's Miracle

You can buy it at any pet store, but it isn't really cheap (Maybe $20/gallon). You need to really saturate the area, and let it dry naturally.

(I was afraid it might rot the wood under the carpet, but became convinced the dog urine would do just as much damage if not more).

It worked for me.

There's this stuff called AtmosKlear that you can get at Ace Hardware (and other places). I don't know what's in it, but it's like a miracle product! If it comes in contact with the source of the odor, the odor will be GONE. It's amazing.

Baking soda with hydrogen peroxide should do the trick. It was the best treatment for skunk odor on MythBusters.
