i prefer monogamy.....to be able to devote your time, love and effection to one person is a wonderful thing to give and receive.....
for me polygamy deprieves you of feeling that you are the ONE special person in some elses life.....
each to their own and as long as all parties are happy with that arrangement then i dont see a problem with it....its just not for me

I can see arguements for it and against it.
On the against side, there's a tendency for women to become undervalued in polygamous cultures. They're treated like commodities, almost bought and sold with no regard for their feelings on the guy they're being paired with.
On the other hand, men have a tendency to raise their standards. You hear it all the time, women complaining that all the good men are "too tall, too short, too married, or too gay." Well, what if you could take one out of that list? Suddenly her options are trippled, and to get her attention you have to be better not only than all the single men out there, but than all the married men as well. And those of us that are good men and husbands *do* get offers. "Are you *happily* married?" "Your wife doesn't deserve you." "You deserve to have some fun." "Your wife won't ever know." (Like I can keep a secret... ha!) But if that option were opened up as ligitimate... think of how the guys in the office who are flirting with those girls would scramble then! Girls could ask my wife, "Does he provide well? Is he nice? Does he run the household well?" And she'd say, "Yes, he does."
So I see ups and downs.

From what I've read it's a cover for child molesters. Invariably the guys who practice it seek out girls, some as young as 13 for wives. I think in general it's a bonanza for men and not so great for women. It treats women as chattel, collected objects. Perhaps in the old days when women had few rights anyway it served a purpose in that women had relief from other wives with chores and child rearing. But in this modern age when women are more equal, even in the developing world, it seems out moded and highly disrespectful.

I have no issue with it. As long as all parties involved are consenting adults, then it should be legal (assuming by polygamy you mean a person having multiple spouses). There's no reason anyone shouldn't be able to marry whomever (legal, consenting) they want and as many people as they want...although it would probably make tax time a nightmare.

It's always wrong.
Marriage (as the anti gays are so fond of yelling) is meant for one man and one woman.
Nobody should have to share their loved one, and I think men like it because it's cheating that is "allowed". Either way, none of the wives is getting a whole husband, and that is what I object to.
It's completely illegal here in the USA--for good reason!

Polygamy is fine if the pendulum swings both ways. If you break down the word...Poly is Greek for many...and Gamy is the word 'marriage' so the literal translation means to "marry many". It would be like one big Orgy fest...a swingers dreams (so to speak). Personally, I am a one man kind of woman. I love my husband too much to share him with anyone else ;-)

Bad! If guys take multiple wives, that leaves less of a choice for the rest of us! There isn't 5-6x more females on the planet than males. Plus, as much as I'd enjoy it, it just isn't fair to the wives. And if it's hard dealing with 1, imagine how hard it would be dealing with several.

I don't agree with polygamy because I want to be queen of the world w/ my man and i don't want to share him. It's a cultural acceptance in places, I do not understand.

I am against it. I think it devalues the husband/wife relationship. I'm curious, however to see what the proponents of gay marriage think of polygamy. If gay marriage becomes legal, and accepted, what's to stop polygamists from demanding their rights?

It is a dumb idea as there would be too many resentments - people don't like to share and what about inheritence time? Too many hurt feelings just for one selfish person to get variety. Idiocy.
