He is well-spoken, intelligent, charismatic, and has clear logical reasons for each plank in his platform.

He also has experience in both government and the private sector, and seems more intent on doing what's best than making a name for himself (he already is semi-famous).

Personally, I oppose every single one of his positions. But he at least is rational and able to articulate and explain his beliefs without resorting to rhetoric. And he appears to respect the rule of law. Both of those are strong qualifications.

Fred Thompson is an experience lawyer and no one remembers he served as minority counsel on the Watergate hearings- meaning he was assisting the Republican on the committees looking into Watergate. He dabbled into politics until in 1994 after doing some of his movies, he decided to run for US Senate out of Tennessee. He did a fine job in eight years in the Senate until deciding to go back on television. Even recently, he was President Bush's point man on assisting Judges Roberts and Alito through the confirmation process. A fine man with very strong values. I would not vote for him in a primary, but would make a great GOP candidate.

Because & LOOKS & SOUNDS like a President; more so than anybody since Reagan. Whether or not he has the knowledge or experience is another matter. Right now there are no potential Republican candidates who have a chance of beating the leading Demo candidates; so they might as well have somebody who looks good & can string a sentence together.

He has a very conservative, almost literal, view of the Constitution. He is very smart and has experience as a lawyer, lobbyist, and actor. He seems to be completely free of any scandal, unlike the last few Presidents. His politics, however, are a bit too conservative for my liking.

He has the experience (former senator/military man/lawyer) to do the job well and he is the most middle of the aisle candidate there is. He will draw both democrat and republican votes. He is well-educated, well-spoken, and he thinks before he acts/talks.

I'm not necessarily a Fred fan, but I do believe he is very electable. He is quite conservative (he plays moderates on TV but his personal views are Reaganesque), he is well known/liked/respected, he has and can raise a potfull of money, and he is unstained by scandal.
