hello, I have a 2000 automatic ford escort zx2 and the service engine soon light came on yesterday. It seems like everything is fine, it starts normal, no weird sounds, and it doesn't need an oil change for a long time. Does anyone know what the problem might be? Thanks!

There are many components that work together in the engine to maintain optimal engine performance and economy.
A service engine soon, or check engine light indicates that there is a sensor that is reading a condition that is "out of range".
Simply resetting the light does not solve the initial cause of the problem.
Replacing a number of parts trying to troubleshoot the problem in the hopes of getting the light to stay off is a tremendous waste of time and money.
The simplest, and most economical way to alleviate your issue, is to have the computer codes check by a reputable shop to determine what caused the computer to signal you to begin with

get the codes read out and it will help you troubleshoot the problem. You have an OBD-II diagnostic connector located right under your steering wheel that places like AutoZone parts stores will hook up a scanner to and read the codes out.

take it to autozone and they will scan it for free and tell you what the code is for and how much the part will cost.
