The Sabres defense isn't that great either, especially when they are injury depleted. You have to cut Miller some slack. WThat said, he's not a great goaltender and I don't think people think he's great. He's decent. His SV% is #15 in the league, and his GAA is #23.

I've listened to a few Sabres games on NHL.com (mostly to listen to Jeanneret) and it seems to me like the Sabres spend an awful lot of time fighting the other team's forecheck. This puts a ton of pressure on the goalie. He faces over 31 shots per sixty minutes. Of course, the Sabres fire a lot of shots in return; they play wide open hockey.

I'd say he's average by NHL standards. Maybe above average.

Apples to apples, I wouldn't be falling in love with Biron either. This year (only counting games played on the Sabres):

Miller = 2.80; .910
Biron = 3.09; .899

Habitant, last year is last year. If we were playing last year, then last year's stats would be more relevant. But we aren't, so they aren't. Also, Biron's stats have gone DOWN (better) since he went to the cellar-dwelling Flyers. This backs up what I said earlier about Buffalo having a wide-open team that's going to Score and give up a lot of goals.

Here is the thing, Miller is a NHL capable goaltender. The team responded to him more than they did Biron. Don't get me wrong, I would have liked to see Biron stay with Buffalo. With Miller in the nets the team knows that they can take chances and the defense can help with the rush and not worry if the other team gets either a breakaway (which is very rare because of the teams speed) or 2 on 1s or 3 on 2s. Miller is not overrated. I believe this is his second full season with Buffalo and 1st as a starter.
The thing that makes him "Great" is that his team has the confidence in his ability to keep them in the game. This team knows the definition of teamwork. How many teams can say that? I have never heard anyone pass the blame to anyone else on the team. Miller defines anchor leadership on this team. The players listen to him and respond to him. He leads by example. This is why he is the starting goaltender for Buffalo.
Stats don't mean anything when you are #1 in the NHL. Teamwork does.

hes not a top 10 in the league. he has a team in front of him that can score if he would be on the Oilers this YEAR, the Oilers would be in the basement not the Flyers. Biron is a much better goalie then Miller is and i keep saying this but nobody believe me. oh well that my opinion on him but seriously hes not that good, you said it your self his stats are terrible but he has the wins to show for but his team is scoring 5 goals a game so that's why he has all those wins.

Ryan Miller is way way overrated, not even a top 10 in the league. A 2.80 GAA average with a low SP% of 0.910 is not spectacular stats to have with 36 wins.

Mr. Taco>>>>Biron had better stats then Miller did last year, remember this is almost the same team as last year. Biron stats speak for them self, and he didnt have the team in front of him the years before. Miller got injured last year Biron and the Sabres went on a huge winning streak the Miller came back and Biron back to back up.
P.S IVE ALWAYS LIKE BIRON AND I DON'T LIKE TO SEE A GOOD GOALIE GET HIS JOB TAKING AWAY FROM HIM WITH ANOTHER GOALIE THAT IS WORST LIKE MILLER.

You are being fooled. Ask yourself this - What do you think of Marc Andre Fleury? Yeah he is streaky and can be really good when he is on his game. He also has one win more then Miller, One less loss, 2 more OT Losses. He has 5 shutouts to Miller's 1. That's right ONE. GAA is 2.80 for Miller and 2.87 for Fleury. Save percentage is .910 for Miller to .904 for Fleury. The Saves are almost even so it is a good comparison. I guess yeah you could say Miller is GOOD, the problem is most of the people try to claim he is GREAT.

That's a great question. I am concerned about his seeming inability to post shutouts very often, and doesn't it seem strange that the other team almost always scores a late goal on him in the third? He makes some great saves, but he's a B+ goalie right now. He's young thought and maybe he will one day be able to focus for a full 60 minutes, maybe string a few of those games with full focus together, but for now the Sabres will go as far as their amazing offense will take them, just unfortunately not to the cup (sob).

Miller is fantastic, screw Marty Biron!

I find myself saying this alot, but Miller needed a chance to play as a starting goalie. Theres a big difference between minors and the NHL and all things considered, SCREW the stats! Buffalo is #1 right now and if Miller was that horrible Buffalonians such as myself would be praying for play-offs right now instead of looking at a team with 100+ points!

Miller makes some amazing saves that NOONE could stop, but he also misses some that are...well dissappointing to say the least! All and all Miller is the man and I think Buffalo will be hard pressed to keep him around for long!

Miller is overrated, mostly by retarded Sabres fans who stuff the All-Star ballot box. But he's the goalie for the long haul, so us Sabres fans need to deal with that. The only reasons he has 36 wins is because he has an awesome offense in front of him that can score 5 goals, when he lets up 4 soft goals.

yes he is good he just need a few more years under his belt all people have some times where they dont do so and just because hes in a slump doesnt make him bad. you just have to think back to the playoffs last year and the begining of this year he is a good goalie people that say otherwise should have their heads examined
i dont think ur being fooled=)

He's young and inexperienced. When you consider that, it is hard to question his skills. Let's see what he does in the playoffs before we start jumping to conclusions. I expect him to step it up when the pressure is on. Even if he doesn't, however, he's only 26 and playing only his first full season as the starter. If he doesn't improve any in the next couple of years, then I'd worry. In the meantime, he's tied for 5th in wins. That's the stat that matters the most right now.

P.S. It is funny that everyone is so high on Martin Biron all of a sudden. Yeah, he's had a good month since the trade, but what did he do before that? He had a shot at being the starter for five years, and guess what? He wasn't good enough. In two years when he new contract is up Philly will be looking for a new goalie... again.

I think Miller is awazing. I didn't know his stats were awful; you couldn't tell just by watching him play. I went to the game last wednesday vs. caps and he had so many incredible saves. He's not superman, though, and I think some of us got fooled into believing his invincibility, so that when he has a few bad games everyone is suddenly shocked and skeptical. But overall, he's the best in the league.
