You know blacks go on about slavery and how white people oppressed them, but did they ever read history? I guess not, because they act like black people were the only slaves.
The french were well known for enslaving there own people in history. And for the Puritans who wanted to get over here and couldnt pay, they went into slavery to pay for thier passage. I wish black people would think they were the only slaves througout history.

Im white, and I looked into my family history and we were slaves, but im not looking for reperations or whatever. Im not holding grudges or anti-white because of it.
Get over it people, slavery was bad, but that was almost 200 years ago! Let history go and forgive.

whatshap, if you read in history books you would see that african tribes would attack and take over another tribe and enslave them, they would then sell them to the portugese who brought them to america. White people didnt enlsave all the blacks, blacks enslaved blacks for money.

Whites were not enslaved BECAUSE they were white.

Actually, it's not the slave factor (more or less) it's the fact that most other countries that had slaves, have apologized for their wrong doings, and have given them some compensation (money or jobs). Where as the US has not.

I think that if you look at the slums here in America majority of blacks live there. Why? because many whites and some (wealthy blacks who think their more than others) hold them back from jobs, opportunity, and money to go to schools (ex. UNCF, NAACP other black organizations giving money to every race but blacks)

If you think they're really helping blacks, call the UNCF and other black organizations and ask them the percentage of African Americans that received money from their organization. I already have, and none of them could answer.

So many just give up. Looking for other alternatives. I almost did, if it weren't for my parents I would have.(Not all blacks have opportunities I had).

This usually results in selling drugs, prostitution, stealing, and killing. Just because they think that's the only way they can get by.

Most blacks don't have the never give up mentality. Blacks do have a part in this wrong doing AND SO DO WHITES.

None of the people on this post were ever slaves, nor are there any slave owners on this post. It's been over for a long, long time. Blacks now have the right to vote, marry who they want, do anything they want within what the law allows, it's the same for all of us. We even have a black president. Not to mention affirmative action, which is based entirely on race. Sure racism still exists but it exists with ALL races. It's basic, primal human nature and it takes effort to resist. The thing is, people love to be offended. That's another basic, primal instinct.....

First of all, I don't want reparations, because how can you be compensated for the lost of life, rape of women & children, lost of culture & dehumanization that slavery caused. Then it'll be "Well they were paid for it, so stop complaining!" Technically if you go by generations it wasn't that long ago. (No, really it wasn't) Why is the confederate flag still an issue then. 2nd of all its the culture that surrounded slavery that still effects us today. One of the reasons you felt the need to ask this question. Many black people have a complex about skin tone, facial features, hair texure or any physical attribute thats considered at its origin to be African (meaning feeling inferior about it). And mainstream media doesn't help. Any black women considered good looking that isn't the shade of Halle Berry. For white men (generally speaking) not too many other than Naomi Campbell (who's mixed w/Asian) -huh? Guess what many black men feel the same way. Would we feel this way if slavery hadn't happen-seriously doubt it. That's just 1 example of the lingering effects of slavery, not the most serious. Self hate- violent killings, quickly being disrespectful to each other-see:gangsta rap- is a whole another animal. That it was sooooo looonnnng ago makes the point that it was the most brutal bondage ever in the recorded history of mankind. And racist attitudes are past down thru generations.Besides the Civil Rights movement was what 1 & half gen. ago!?! Give ME a break.

Yes throughout history we see the Romans Persians and Greeks had slaves from their war conquest. There was also human trafficing between europe, asia, africa, and asia minor. (this was just based on supply and demand for cheap labor or pleasure from women, girls and boys) Even the United States started out with indentured servants who were both black and white, who could belong to white or black people. American Racism is unique because it used peoples personal characteristics and econimics. Which they had no control over to keep them enslaved, this was mandated by law. (the theory of whiteness)

The theory of Whiteness is an ideology created to justify being able to take people of certain ethnic groups, and allowing them to be subdued, subjugated, and directed because of white superiority. This allowed whites the right to dictate own and possess human beings. This was practiced by whites on blacks, native americans, and other races. George Bush and Dick Cheney are currently practicing this theory in the Iraq war, and throughout the world.

Reparations that blacks are asking for is for the degradation that their ancestors went through. My grandfather, and my father still had to go to the back of the bus. You say get over it. I'm sure there were not laws created to keep you and your ancestors from marrying people of other races or were there laws saying that whites were not considered human. These were laws that were actually written, and in the last 20 years these laws have been taken off the books.

I am very proud of my ancestors you see. They paved the way for me and my children. So therefore I do not need your reparations. Matter of fact a recent study shows that 48% of blacks do not even want reparations.

It would be smart on your part to do your own study, interview black people you know (I doubt that you do) and find out how they really feel about reparations, You would be surprised.

But are you still experiencing the effects of the slavery that your ancestors were in. You still have your culture. You're fine so why did you have to mention the African slaves? You are not holding a grudge because in america you are not a minority, it doesn't matter what ethnic group you come from. African Americans are an obvious minority, we are not mad about slavery and is anyone complaining about it? I don't think so. Slavery is something that cannot be forgiven, and the people who did it are no longer alive so it is hard to get past. When you see the way people of color are struggling you have to think about how our history has affected us. No one is mad, someone like you (from a family of 'slaves') should understand something like that.

At least you can trace your family. Your family volunteered to be a slaves or should I say endenture servants.

I know and achknowledge the enslavement of whites. Every citizen at the height of the Roman Empire, was a slave.

Now lets examine this. African slaves lost the following:
Name
Language
Religion
Culture
Worshiping Practices
Geneology
Families
Homeland
Self Esteem
History
Freedom
Identity

Add insult to injury, they were packed in the hull of ships, staked like boxes. If the person chained to you died, they lay that way next to you most of the journey. If a person lay on top of you took sh*t or pissed and your were on the bottom, tough! Pregnant and women on their cycle had not ability to take care of themselves in a sanitary fashion. Sick or dead were thrown overboard like a piece of trash. The hulls were rat and fecise infested. Disease and disentary levels were off the chart. If you caught the white mans flu, which he was immune to, you were sure to died. The women were rapped continuosly to include the very young girls.

Did you know the first slave ship was name after "Jesus?" Did you know all of this was justified in the name of Jesus? Were any of your ancestors victim of the Triangle Trade?

Did you know as a way to inbreed fear to make the slaves behave the captures use to take a pregnant women, hang her by the toes, slice open her stomach, let the unborn baby fall to the ground and the stomp it dead? Threats and intimidation. If a master wanted to rape your grandmother, mom, wife or daughter, you could do nothing. Image a man rapping your mom or sister now! Imagine living everyday wondering when you would be sold away to a stranger never to see your family again.

Slavery ended 143 years ago. We have only been able to vote for 40 years. How long has it been since segregation ended? Did you know the average native born black person can only trace there family back about 4 generations, 5 if your extremely lucky. What did you say, 200 years? Why is that an immigrants can enter this country and get all the rights upfront that blacks still fight for? If things are so legit, why does the KKK have a history that spanes the end of the Civil War? If they were black or hispanic, would they still be allowed to exist? Heck No! The would be public enemy number 1 and exterminated. Look what the Government did to the Black Panthers which were nothing like the KKK.

Yeah, your right we blacks go on about slavery for no reason. Personally I don't since I have learned to beat a caucasoid at his own game.

The guilt in slavery is carried mostly by whites. Look at all the band-aids you give us. Can you say Affirmitive Action! Black History Month!

I'm black and I honestly don't know any black people who still moan about slavery. I think its an uncomfortable topic for a lot of whites. They say stuff like whites were slaves to and Africans sold blacks to try to diminish the guilt placed on American whites. I personally don't have any hang-ups about slavery but centuries of white supremacy being ingrained into a society has its affects.

The belief that white was superior over black had already been established and whites had rights where blacks had none, slave or not. Eventually black slaves became the only slaves in America. After slavery was abolished blacks still were denied rights and Jim Crow laws were enforced up until the 60's

I do not think most African American people seekin reparations are aware that they were NOT the only race to be enslaved at some point and time. Possibly due to lack of education, or perhaps apathy, who knows.

Every individual in this world has been a minority sometime. Due to circumstance, culture, life, whatever. No one escapes being the minority of one.

well you are actually in the wrong here...
black peoples ancestors were in slavery for over 300 years.. our race is all over the globe some of us are even conflicts against our own race.. this was caused by the movement of the slave trade. & the white society on the other hand are all together. the reason why parts of africa is in this state is because of the effect s from the slave trade. there is soo much reasons how i could say you're in the wrong but thats one.

even our language has been almost taken away from us....
obviously it'll be easy enough for you to say all of that..
if you know anything bout the blacks slavery then i would think you wouldnt have commented/complained about it.. the conditions on the ships etc.. were unimaginable, they were raiped, murderd, tortured & alot more.. an i doubt the white slaves were transported to other countries like the blacks were. also who where the people that enslaved the whites?
i doubt you looked into that enough too.. it wasnt our faults white were enslaved.. you guys enslaved your own people.. we didnt.. its obvious how that history isnt that big because whites were enlaving therir own race!?

without any doubt i think that the slavery is unforgiveable to alot of people out there.
you cant just forgive and 4get somthing that big....
to behonest i dont think black people have up to the freedom they fought for 150-100 years ago..
