No. I consider atheists as "lost". Nor would I vote for an outwardly religious preacher-type. I think that spirituality is meant to be private, shared only between oneself and God. (Kind of like sexuality is meant to be private, shared only between husband and wife). The fact that a person is religious is not as defining to me as his or her ability keep it private and set an example by "walking the walk" quietly.

No, in fact, it wouldn't. Not to me. I may well be in the minority here, but I would be hypocritical answering anything else. I believe, very strongly, that religion and politics should be very separate entities. And having many atheists as friends, I would say that any of them could do a far more moral and ethical job than has been done in the White House in a long time.
Sadly, people relate religion to morals...and it just isn't a responsible equation. Just because a person doesn't believe in a higher power does not make that person irresponsible or hatefilled. But I've met many 'religious' people who are.
Vote for the candidate who will represent the best interests of the people...not a faith.

I would vote for whoever more closely matched my views. The few atheists I know actually are more compassionate, understanding, and knowledgeable about current events than a lot of Christians I know.
Given 2 candidates with exactly the same views and exactly the same level of moral decency, I would probably vote for the one (or those 2) that my wife didn't vote for. Religion would have no bearing on my choice.
I won't hold my breath waiting for that to happen, though. This "the lesser of 2 evils" process is sickening. I pray for a day when I actually agonize over which candidate is better, not which is worse.

They can say what they want but if all of the qualifications were the same, I would vote for the candidate who believed in God. I think that a belief in a higher power is natural and gives one a base from which to work. I'm not saying that I would choose one religion over another either. It's not the religion that matters, it's the belief, which normaly leads to conscience.

Yes. i am a Christian. Being a Christian does not make you a good candidate for President. I would definitely not be the right person to be president - not the right training, education, background, desires, exposure. But, I do hope that every President that we have is a Christian, or, if they are not, that they will become a Christian.

No, it is all about the platform of the candidate to me. If the atheist candidate has the right economic and governmental rules that I want I will vote for them. Ultimately their platform is what will change this country not their religion.

I'm a Muslim and i would vote for an atheist president if he was the best man or woman for the job. If he had the desire and drive and passion that i was looking for in a leader his religion or lack of makes no difference what so ever.

It'd be a tie-breaker for me, but not much more. I'm secure enough in my religious beliefs that I don't look for reinforcement from the President.
If I did, I've have despaired a LONG time ago!

No I wouldnt. The reason being, I think its important for a President to have some kind of Godly leading for the job he has to do. Look at our current President compared to the last one... Lordy the devil had a hayday with Bill! Dont cha agree, sista?!?!?!

I would vote for the religious one if they believe in the same God as I do. Satanism is considered a religion and I would not vote for them.
