OK, i started using tampons when i was 15 and it didnt hurt at all ( i was a virgin) it did bother a little but then you get used to it. But i prefer pads, because tampons can cause you infections and it holds up the blood and it gives you more pain and you menstruate more days too using tampons. So i only use them for the beach or special ocassions. So my advise use PADS!!!Good Luck

Many women feel tampons will "devirginize" you but that is so far from the truth. If you want to use a tampon go for it. There are a few things to think about though. ALWAYS use a tampon that is going to hold your flow. Example is: For a very heavy flow buy the supers, for a light flow buy regulars. If you use a tampon that is super plus and you are only spotting, it will increase your chances of Toxic Shock Syndrome(TSS) In all boxes of tampons there is a brochure explaining this. It can be serious, however the number of women reported to have this is going down. As for a brand, I suggest Playtex. They have a plastic applicator which makes it much easier to insert than say cardboard. Good luck!

Having a hymen or not having a hymen has nothing to do with being a virgin. The only way you can possibly be devirginized is by having sex. Tampons are great because you can be more active. You can swim, bike, etc., with the confidence that there will be no accidents. Pads I personally find smelly and uncomfortable. They also have to be changed more frequently. Try Kotex plastic applicator tampons and choose they right one for your flow. Since you're young, you probably have a light flow, so regular should be fine. They have instructions in the box and they are easy to use and not painful.

Tampons will not de-virginize you! Being a virgin is not about an inanimate object entering your vagina. It is about the act of sex. My mom wouldn't let me use tampons, because she thought they would give me Toxic Shock Syndrome. This is extremely rare, and only happens if the tampon is not changed for over 8 hours. When I tried tampons in college, I never went back. They do not hurt (even for virgins) because they are MUCH smaller than the average penis. The benefits are that they absorb fluid before it exits the body, giving you better protection. You feel clean, hardly noticing that you are on your period! Also, they give you a lower chance of leakage, especially during sports. Start with light or regular absorbency and increase if necessary. Be sure to change them every few hours. The plastic applicators are slightly more comfortable to use, but I don't see any difference between brands. Good luck finding what works best for you!

Tampons are wonderful! It's like you're not even on your period. They are so convenient, way less messy, and completely comfortable, you can forget it's there (but don't do that!). My first time I had to put a little water-based lubricant (like KY) on it, and I used the "junior" size of Tampax, which were the smallest on the market at the time. Just look for something on the label that indicates the smallest. Put a little lubricant just on the tip (try not to get it too messy or your fingers will slip and you won't be able to push it in!). I had to lie on my back with my knees bent up like a frog to get in in the first few times. After that I could just do it standing up like normal people. You are NOT de-virginized when you use a tampon. It didn't hurt at all, even though I was a virgin. There is NOTHING bad about tampons. They have a warning in the box about Toxic Shock Syndrome, but this shouldn't happen if you change them often enough. They have been approved for up to 8 hrs left in place, but you'll probably have to change it more often enough. They can leak a little if you have a heavy flow, so on your heavy days you can back it up with a panty liner. Good luck, and try it -- you'lll probably love the convenience!

Tampons have no effect on your hymen and therefore are perfectly safe to wear. The are much more comfortable than pads you just have to get used to them.
Tampax makes a slender/teen size that is good to start with. If you have a heavy period you may have to go up to regular size. I beleive OB also makes a slender tampon.
There are some health concerns with tampons but if you remember to change them every 4 hours there should be no problem.
Talk with a nurse at school if you there is one available with any other questions.

I hate the feeling of pads in my underwear, so I have always used tampons. I use OB brand. I find they're small, but you insert them by hand, without an applicator. It depends on you if you want that or an applicator, I like this better. I still keep pantiliners around that I use at night, or maybe when I guess I am going to get my period. They're thinner than regular pads, and not quite as uncomfortable. I don't think tampons are painful to use. At the end of the period, when they don't get completely soaked, it might be harder to pull them out, but you learn from experience. My sister showed me how to do it for the first time. Maybe you can find a friend of yours who use tampons who will show you how it works, it's always easiest if someone explains it and shows you how to do it. I don't know what I'd do without tampons. Good luck.

Well, many familys are old school and don't allow their daughters to use tampoons if they're virgins. I'm a virgin, but I use them. Technically, using a tampon won't take away your virginity, but it may break your hymen, which can happen in everyday or sports activities. Tampons don't usually hurt, unless you put one in at the wrong angle. Tampons are great for when you go swimming, go to formal events, and when in sports. I use both pads and tampons, and I really don't prefer one over the other.
If you do use tampons, make sure you change them AT LEAST every 4-6 hours to avoid TSS. It's a disease you get from bacteria that may be on a tampon if worn for too long.
