No, it will be fine. You can even put undeveloped camera films through those scanners without damage (up to ISO 400) so they are not that bad at all.

No, but I would tell them that's what you have in their so they could look at it without putting it through the scanner.
There were scares about this when I was young. Apparently BBC employees had tapes of programmes wiped when they went on the London Underground. I think this maybe where the tape scare comes from.
I do think that the others who have answered this are right though. When I was at university in the late 80's we were told not to take floppy disks though the scanners to the library as they might be wiped. I think this proved to be false and I think airport scanners work in a different way anyway.
Even with this, I wouldn't take a chance though.
I wonder if people think an ipod could be wiped by an airport scanner1!!!

nope, the only think that would possibly mess up your tape would be if you drag it across a powerful demagnetizing device. but the xray device they use at airports should not harm it at all. enjoy your holiday!
