in bikepics it says its 1999 but how can that be when they stop making them in 89

He has actually made a mistake when he posted the pics of his bike..thats not a 99 model! Not with front & rear drum brakes & twin shocks! air cooled too!
Looks like 85,86 model...hold on..I'll find what year it is....

..ahhh they stopped twin shock in 1982 so yours is earlier than that..I think were yours has a square headlight yours might be 1981 as thats when they were changing around that time..

It is pretty simple to change the headlight to square..as I have done this...so don't let the headlight confuse you! : )

It is quite possible that Bikepics put an incorrect date - 1999 rather than 1989. You only have to put a 9 instead of an 8...

This is called human error.
