Give me a different point of view. . . . . I'd like to get your perspective as I've already asked the "Parenting Section". Read Below:

My Kindergartener Son said the "F Word" at school today and the teacher is supposed to call me. Instead, should I call her first and when I do, how do I approach the situation? My son hears my husband cuss all the time. Also, when the teacher asked my son, "Who do you hear say that word?", he replied - "My Dad".

I guess my main question is, since we each equally share the Kindergartener volunteer days (every Tuesday), who should talk to the teacher, (my husband or I)?

You both need to talk to the teacher. Your husband truly needs to watch what he says and you need to be there to ensure what was said. That being said....it is also both of your responsibility to make sure your child knows that certain words should not be spoken by a child. Just as you wouldn't allow your child to drink a beer, because only adults should drink beer, there are some words that are not for use by minors. That should be stressed as well, because none of us is perfect....we all slip every now and then.

I think you should handle it together as a married couple and as the parents of this child. I would talk to the teacher, express your disappointment over your child using the F word at school and attempt to explain the origins of him using the word. This shouldn't be a major deal unless it continues. I would put your husband on the phone and have him speak to the teacher as well and explain that he has slipped and used the F word in front of your child. You need to express to the teacher that this will not happen again. More importantly, your husband needs to sit down with your child and tell him that using the F word is wrong, no matter who does is. Your husband should convey to your son that it is unacceptable and extremely rude.

You should talk to your husband about substituting different words for the F- bomb. Have him practice saying "Oh fudge" instead. It'll sound dumb at first but then it'll become habit. Call the teacher and let her know you and your husband are addressing the situation at home. Also, reward your son when he doesn't say the word!

Since your husband is the one influencing your son to to talk like this then maybe he should be the one to address the issue.

You both should, seriously, as a parent, you need to learn to watch what you say around your children. You also need to explain to him that words like that are not appropriate for him to say.
