this statement: Progress is good for America. Do you agree or disagree and why? are there historical facts that make you feel one way or the other? I just want some opinions. Thanks!

By definition, progress is usually a good thing. I suppose it depends on whether you define progress this way or just as change in general. Progress as change could mean getting better or getting worse.

I think making progress and improving is always good. Who wouldn't? We've come a long way from the days when women couldn't vote, blacks were enslaved, and only rich, white, landowning men could vote.

I agree. Progress is good for America. We have electricity. Not many people can say that is a bad thing. Most of us have running water and automatic sewage removal. Except for paying the utility bills, I don't see anything bad there. Many people have natural gas piped to their homes: good for heating, cooking, hot water.
Cell phones are progress. Land phones require so much more hardware and maintenance that they eventually will die out.

Progress is a good thing, as long as the study of history is maintained. Otherwise its just taking stabs in the dark.

Yes, progress is good for America, but NEVER mistake change for progress.

the question is what is meant by progress. Of course progress is good, but i would not call bigger factories, and more roads progress.

I would call progress: more wisdom, more happiness, more love, more true wealth etc.

Depends...monetarily and technologically, progress is good in most cases, environmentally and for the guy who gets replaced by a computer, it is sometimes not good

Progress is rarely bad, unless it's progress with napalm or cluster bombs. Most progresses in science have positive statements, but you can't make statements like 'all [something] is good'.

Progress is by definition good.

Change is not by definition good.

The key is to call any change "progress" and therefore claim it is all good.

I think we need to change what we refer to as "progress." It usually just means destroying the planet and covering it in blacktop.
