How quickly they forget huh? They have no right to act so high & mighty, since it wasn't so long ago they were in her shoes. People who act like that make me sick! They need to sweep off their own porches before they sweep off someone else's.

Depends on how much this other friend drinks. I'm an alcoholic who doesn't drink anymore. I have friends who obviously have drinking problems but aren't doing anything to change that and sometimes deny they have a problem. It bugs me but I don't bother them about it. There are many people in the world that CAN drink normally and are not alcoholics. It's rude to look down on people just because they ingest alcohol when they obviously don't have a drinking problem. You do have to remember that there are different kinds of alcoholics and some of them don't get out of control when they drink. They can have a dependency without acting like a maniac. It's not healthy to be dependent on alcohol so maybe these friends believe she has a 'problem' but is in denial. At any rate, they shouldn't judge her since they were once drinkers themselves.

Oh my GAWD!
I have an uncle like that.Biggest booze-bag back in the day,but let him catch one of us drinking at a family reunion....
He starts in with phrases like "If you're not part of the solution then you're part of the problem!".
Jeezus! Just let me get my drink on! Just because YOU have 3 failed marriages and a lousy driving record doesn't mean that I'm going to ruin my life too!
I love the guy though...I reckon he just doesn't want to see anyone else go through the same mess that he did.

I'm sure the above definitions fit what you're talking about.
Just tell your friends that if they would like your lush friend to clean up, looking down on her is not a very effective strategy.
Most people that exhibit this attitude aren't all that concered with helping the people they look down on. They just want everyone to know that they've seen the error of their ways and have suddenly become an expert.
The attitude you speak of normally manifests itself among people that have recently seen the light.
You can find this attitude among many people in the MLM community that think they're going to become millionaires in six months from selling power juice and health wafers. They speak of us common wage earning folk like we're a mere notch above the scum of the earth. Thankfully this attitude passes in about a month after they've alienated all of their friends and have only sold one box of health wafers.

Yep, same reason why people do that for anything. Everyone wants to judge others. If your friend doesn't think she has a problem, if its not causing problems for her, she is fine. How long have your other friends been sober? Sometimes newcomers try to ride the high-horse for awhile. Don't take it personal. People will always have something to say about what you do or don't do.

I'm an ex lush and I find this question offensive. I don't care what others drink..as long as they don't try to get me to drink too.

Because they see that the path she is on is no good. It would not be good for them to hand out with someone who drinks too much when they are trying not to fall back into that lifestyle.
