Actions of any kind based on race is by definition racism, all of which are wrong. Merit is what should count, period.
Want to really get rid of racism in America?
A person I once met stated it quite succinctly.
Quit talking about it.
He says he finds Black History Month “ridiculous.”
“You're going to relegate my history to a month?” asks Freeman. “I don't want a Black History Month. Black history is American history,” he says, noting that there are no white or Jewish history months.
How can we get rid of racism?
“Stop talking about it. I'm going to stop calling you a white man,” Freeman says to Wallace. “And I'm going to ask you to stop calling me a black man. I know you as Mike Wallace. You know me as Morgan Freeman. You wouldn't say, ‘Well, I know this white guy named Mike Wallace.’ You know what I'm sayin’?”

hi, I easily have blended emotions as this might properly be a 2 edged sword: just about: i could say covert is a splash extra suitable via fact a minimum of those kinds of people will cage the beast interior and save their recommendations an comments to themselves while overt racists are possibly as to no longer shout or make nasty comments in the event that they see you with a member of the different race, be extra vulnerable to bodily harm you or make the region you're in with them down good depressing at ultimate. Theoretically: Overt racism is extra suitable. I as quickly as had a South African college professor who replaced into East Indian or colored. I advised him that English talking South Africans advised me that issues could be extra suitable there if the Dutch ie Afrikaans had no longer have been given means after 40 9 via fact jointly as the English enjoyed extra equality for blacks and colored the Afrikaans did no longer. My prof laughed his head off and reported I helpful had the incorrect impact, He and the blacks favourite to handle the Afrikaans. The English have been wishy washy, promised a lot and did little and that they concept blacks have been large yet does no longer choose for one for a son or daughter in regulation no longer to show take over lest yet or you would be in Rhodesia's issue. quickly, 2 confronted. The Afrikaans on the different hand have been blatantly truthful of their shape asserting we are able to tolerate no equality between black, white and colored and we will engineer separate progression and direction! a minimum of he reported they have been completely sparkling and non - whites knew how they stood and what had to be executed from there. Cheers, Michael Kelly

The idea that calculated counter racism is a cure for racism or past racism is lunacy. Sure it sounds like a good idea, but in pratice doesn't work.
Everyone is racist to some degree. Your either somewhat racist or your a liar. To belive that "white America" owes you something is racist. No living white person owns or owned slaves - you aren't and weren't a slave....its totally based on race.
To me in both cases you listed ignorace is the key factor. Ignorance of another race and thier being no better, no worse in the first case - and the ignorace of reality in the second.
ADD: I think it is funny that some believe that Whites are more Racist than blacks. NAACP, Jet magazine, BET, UNCF....not racist at all - besides the fact that they are totally based on race. The fact that you lump all white people together is racists. Its the attitude that the government owes you something that keeps any population down.

The first because like the first poster said, it could argued that that is true or not. Affirmative action is NOT about hiring the less qualified, because for any job you have to be qualified to get the job, Affirmative action or not.

How do you know the black person is less qualified? Because he/she got his/her bachelor's in City College (a public university in NYC) rather than Harvard?
As we write, white high school drop outs earn more in a lifetime than black college dropouts. the same principle works for college drop outs, too. So, something is going on.
With regards to your first scenario, blacks have been going through that for decades.
AA is not preferential hiring, it's to make sure people like the "ignorant hicks" (or you, for that matter) don't get unnecessarily picky in their hiring process.

Affirmative Action isn't solely for the purpose of hiring a less qualified black person, to assume that is just ridiculous. Affirmative Action is to allow for the consideration of blacks and other races as well as women in predominately WHITE male dominated environments that otherwise would continue to exclude and ostracize women, blacks and other races depriving them of equal opportunity. There are very qualified people from other races that are not given the opportunities due to racism, but are equally as qualified and capable.

Affirmative action is for losers and under-achievers and for people who suffer from white guilt.
