Dina: Are we there to protect them, or provide self-esteem counseling??? Either they want this damn democracy or they don't. Time for them to choose, and then grow a set and protect themselves and stop bleeding our resources.

Iraq is not a country with like-minded citizens. The population is divided by religion. You are not going to get an Iraqi soldier who is a Sunni to kill another Sunni, nor a Shi'a kill another Shi'a.

They are not a fighting people anyway. They just like cute uniforms, shooting their American issued rifles into the air and kidnapping those who are not a member of their own religious sect.

This another very fundamental fact that the Bushies can't grasp, haven't explored and don't give a dam about anyway. All Bushie wants is the oil.

Because we obliterated the central government, dissolved the army, and gutted the civilian infrastructure while leaving an amazing vaccuum in its place. It would be hard to picture America taking the lead with regard to our own national security if a foreign power invaded us and did the same.

It is impossible to take the lead when you have to worry about your own safety and security. Self-preservation is almost always the first human concern. Just look at us here in the US since President Bush launched the so called "war on terror," he convinced us that it is OK to sacrifice our own personal freedoms in exchange of feeling safe.

Reminder: We invaded them. They never asked for this "damn democracy"

Regarding Iraq "getting their act together" I think they would if they could. Would you want to live under foreign occupation? They want us gone just as much as we want to get out of there.

Could it be that they are afraid that their families would be blown up by some crazy suicide bomber.

Why do you think it is so easy to change a society into believing in themselves when they have always been led by some type of dictator?

Money. They are being paid better by insurgents. Additionally, many are having their families threatened by insurgents, which either makes them quit the force or makes them ineffective as law enforcement officials.

Because they are milking us out, they realize that the longer it takes for them to pull their act together, the more money we will spend on them and that means more money for them in the long run, if we pulled out now, they would be forced to fend for themselves, bottom line, we shouldn't be there, we will never be welcome there, and any interests that we have there when we do pull out would have to be heavily guarded by our military, so it looks like we will never leave, and now that Iran is showing its force, we probably never will.

they don't have the discipline for it now, come to that, if we were to try to form a system of government right now today in America, I doubt it would happen because we're far to polarized these days

It's kind of hard to take the lead, when we have killed all their leaders.

Why should they when our military is still there?

They will take whatever our military is willing to give and then some.
