If my opinion is based on 1 persons view, then it's not really my opinion right? But if I come to my own conclusions, based on reading several other peoples knowledge and opinions, then can I truly call it "My Opinion"?

I think that as long as you make the statement than you can claim it as your own opinion and it does matter whether you derive at the conclusion through one person's view or a 100 different views. You still have the choice whether to agree or disagree with all or non of the views offered. Though, personally, I believe the better informed you are on a topic the more insightful your opinion will become. But just read some of these questions and anwers all over Yahoo!Answers and you can see that opinions do not need to be insightful to be an opinion - they infact just need to be stated.

an opinion is never the truth, so no matter how you arrived at it, it's pretty worthless. Your version of the truth might be an opinion to someone else, but it's more than just an opinion to you, it's what you believe. Even if you believe there is no "truth," then that is what you think is true, the fact that there is no truth.

So either way, whatever you think is the most true regarding life or a particular subject, that's your truth. Don't down play it and call it an opinion just because someone else might think it is.

Yes, you're right. An opinion based solely on another person's view is an adaptation of that person's opinion, not yours. If you come to your own conclusion based upon research taking into consideration different points of views or proposed facts, then the conclusion you deduce is your own opinion; even though it can be of the same opinion of others.

Wow! really good question! because I ask that myself all the time when answering at Yahoo! Answers...

I just think.... our opinion is what we think about anything regardless of how we came out with that conclusion...
It is obvious all our thinking and opinions have a initial source that made us think that way...
We read books, read others people answers to questions, see the TV, movies, life experiences... and all that make us what we are now... Then don't worry, anything you say about any subject is your opinion.... which is based upon the opinion of other people and life experiences OR both!

Hope that helps!

The research that you do in forming your own opinion may merely be the listening to of another's point of view. If this then causes agreement within yourself thereby forming an opinion within you, it becomes your opinion. Is it not also "Your Team" even though there are other members also sharing this team?

Your opinion is yours as soon as you have it. It's yours if you feel it & believe it. Regardless of where it originated (your mom, your best friend, your neighbour, an actress) if you agree with it, then it becomes your opinion too.

You don't have to have come up with an idea yourself to be able to own it. There are very few original ideas these days. No matter what you feel or think there is probably someone that agrees with you & has already stated it somewhere!

But that's just my opinion! :)

Peace out.

an opinion, just like everything else, might be said to never be really mine, since i get all of my information that shapes my opinion from places outside of myself.
but so is all of knowledge, so maybe you'd want to make the allowance that any time i take knowledge into my awareness (or maybe even unawareness) and it shapes something i think or do, it becomes "mine" in a particular way...

or you might say that it is taking information gathered outside of yourself and shaping it using your own reason is a manner in which an opinion (or anything you consider) is really yours

Your opinion is yours no matter on what it was based.
Your opinion is what you think or believe at the time you make it. You can change your opinion if certain facts are brought forward that make you feel you made a mistake. But again, it's your opinion.

When you KNOW what you're talking about. I mean, really know.

Imagine we're sitting at a table and there's an apple there. Now, two things: First, you've never had apple before. Second, I have and I'm trying to explain to you what it tastes like.

Conclusion: You're going to have to taste the apple to really know what it tastes like.
