The Democrats are framing the debate around the feasibility of the war. The President is framing the debate around supporting the troops.

I believe the veto will occur. Whether or not it is overridden depends on who defines the debate.

The President has selected a simplistic missleading issue to garner support. The Democrats have chosen an issue that requires a memory and a discerning view of the world to understand.

I think the President will win this round. Shameful as it is for the American populous.

They do not have the votes. You need 2/3's majority to override a veto. As much as Dems think they have control, they don't. Congress is divided almost right down the middle.

No need.

If Bush vetoes the funding bill, then he runs out of money and is forced to bring the troops home in a few months, rather than bringing them home in 2008 (18 months from now).

Congress is saying next year, and giving Bush the funding to support the troops. But Bush can force the troops to come home earlier by vetoing the funding Congress gave him.

Bush is the only one who loses if he votes the bill. The troops come home either way. Just when is up to Bush.

Well, they have to have 2/3 vote to override the veto. This is not going to happen.

No. That would be nearly impossible.

This whole thing is political posturing by Democrats to appease their supporters on the far left.

Very doubtful. They are too evenly divided to really accomplish anything, and too stubborn and childish to work with each other.
