if you want a refund then yes. for repair or replacement you will need to prove you bought the item in that shop, ie box with shop logo

it depends on the store, if you don't have any packaging etc to show that you bought the jewellery at a particular store then how does that store know it was where you purchased it. If you don't have a receipt and you paid for it on visa then your credit card statement may do as proof of purchase. If you don't have a receipt and the shop takes it back and the jewellery has gone down in price then you will receive the last selling price of the item.

As long as you have some other proof (i.e. the thing you bought can only be purchased at that shop or you have a credit card statement etc) then no you do not need the receipt

A receipt always helps.
without it you better hope you dont catch someone who got out the wrong side of the bed,
cos you wont really have a leg to stand on.
