I have heard Bengali and Palestinian people refer to each other as the 'n' word. Is this acceptable? I'm trying my best not to listen to music with such disrimtinating terms, but how do we get rid of it if other communities are now practising it?

It's really weird. In my old high school in NYC (last year) White people said it to Black people, Black people said it to White people, Asian people said it to White people , Asian people said it to Asian people and every other combination u can think of. I've never said the word.

Now if a police officer hears u saying it you get a $100 fine but people still do it. When I see people using it (especially in front of elderly people I get mad) but I just look at them and shake my head. The word will never go away when u have record companies allowing artist to use it and t.v stations allowing it on t.v. Sad but that's what I think.

In my opinion the "N" word should not be used under any circumstances regardless of race at this point.

It seems in the past a double standard has been set. It's okay for some people to use among themselves but if someone from a different race uses it, it suddenly turns into a racist statement.

If its not okay for some to use it then NO ONE should use it. I think race relations will improve if the word is omitted from our vocabulary.

This is what the black community has brought upon themselves. That word has become socially acceptable to everyone. Latinos, white, blacks, Asians, etc. Use the N word now. Thank the rappers, and community.

?
well
I know some blacks that call each other the n word and they say its all good a term of endearment and all that so I don't know what to tell you except that we all need to deal with our own prejudices and try to promote acceptance through example and not by trying to control what other people say or do. I know I am living in America and that here in the US dictating what people say or do to that degree can be considered by some as unconstitutional.

I would never say that word in public. Sometimes I will jokingly say with with my close friends but I try not to use it too often. I know people are offended by it. I am too most of the time. Like in movies and song lyrics. I think it is annoying hearing it over and over again. People need to find a new word.

If you don't want someone to use a term, then don't use it yourself and maybe people will understand the idea that one shouldn't use that term. Unfortunately, nobody owns language, and there is nothing that you can do to stop people from using certian words.
