Maybe because butter is what makes up most of the popcorn.LOL.Or maybe it's just not considered a vegetable because it is considered unhealthy.

corn is the vegetable. popcorn is the vegetable corn, with added ingredients. it's like saying, "how come broccoli keash isn't a vegetable?" broccoli is the vegetable, but when you add extra ingrediants, it isn't considered a vegetable anymore.

it's derivative.... but majority of the nutrients are removed by it's processing... plus corn does not have much nutrients to start other than sugar and fiber...
but it is a cooked and altered food... no longer loooking like it's original form....you will only confuse people if you call it a vegetable, just like calling chips a tuber! so why would you like to still call it one!... besides corn is a grain really

The dried seed that you pop is a grain. When corn seeds are ground into dust it's made into corn meal, thus the seed is a grain.

Same reason that potato chips and french fries aren't (though they're made from potatoes)...the corn kernels have been processed (dried out and require popping for eating).
