Both are great choices. Price wise, Disney has a lower cost option than Universal if you stay onsite. All of Universal's hotels are higher priced, more like the deluxe resorts at Disney. So if you are on a budget, then Disney may fit into your budget better. But, Universal usually offers better deals on tickets, where Disney may offer a better discount overall, like the free dining they have been offering in September for the past few years.
As far as which is better, it depends what your needs are. If you have younger children and/or don't like thrill rides, then Disney will probably offer more for you. If you don't have kids, have older kids and/or love thrill rides, then Universal will probably offer more. Disney offers some rides that are a little more thrilling, like Mission Space and Expedition Everest, but the biggest and most thrill rides will be at Universal.
Now, if it were me, I would go for a little bit longer stay and do both. I would stay at Disney for about 4 or 5 nights and then do Universal 1 or 2 days. If you have the time, this will be the most fun. In my opinion, Universal doesn't take as much time as Disney, so it doesn't always fill up the time you have there. But, if you don't mind riding the same rides on your trip, then it isn't a problem, it would give you more time to stuff outside of the theme parks as well.
Hope this helps!

Disney World. It has magic. And four parks versus two. And parades/fireworks, which Universal doesn't have. I have been to both places. Universal was nice for a one time vacation, but Disney has me going back again and again, and craving the next visit in between times. Some can't see it, but there is definitely a magic there. It's wonderful.

Disney World, hands down. However, Universals' Islands of Adventure theme park is a lot of fun if you have roller coaster enthusiasts in your group!

Disney by far! It has 4 theme parks and 2 waterparks! Anytime we go to Orlando, we always stay on the Disney property and only go to Disney parks...it's the only way to go...whether you have little kids, big kids, or no kids.

Have you gone to their websites where they give a video clip and explain the rides? All of it is worth seeing!!
MGM..Fantismic, tower of terror, backlot tour, Muppets, ride the Movies..
Epcot, spaceship earth is slow, universe of energy, mission to mars, test track, illuminations at night...
Animal Kingdom, 30 minute safari ride, it's tough to be a bug, Khali river rapids, Mt Everest,
Magic Kingdom...Tiki birds, Pirates of Car., Space Mountain, Thunder Mt, Splash Mt.,...All of it!!
Most say that Spiderman at Islands of Adventure is the best ride. Universal is awesome, but I have been to Disney more.
