WRONG.....

The President needs to have his allegiance to the CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.

He needs to follow the laws and uphold the values of America.

NOT BEND TO THE WILL OF THE CORE GROUP OF PEOPLE WHO ELECTED HIM.

No, they are not.

They are elected (in theory) to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States, by executing the duties prescribed for their particular office therein, and remaining within the confines thereof.

Oftentimes the will of the people actually conflicts with the Constitution. That's when the President and other elected officials should draw upon their integrity and resolve and continue to do their duty. That's usually when career politicians check the polls.

The will of the people does not rule this country. The Constitution does.

Our government is for the people and by the people! The President is there to represent and abide by the will of the people, based upon the constitution. Basically, the constitution is the will of the people. When government officials violate the constitution, they violate the will of the people. The constitution, was created to RESTRICT the powers of the government, and to PROTECT the people from government tyranny. THAT is the real purpose of the constitution. This administration, seems to need to be reminded of this fact, even more than some others in the past have. *sm*

Bush is unlike most Presidents. Once elected, most Presidents become the President of the country, not of their party. Bush never did that. He never reached out to be the President of everyone. That is where his allegiance lies. With the few that still support him and with himself.

Presidents generally owe allegiance to the people. The current one owes allegiance to big business, especially the oil business.

BigPen and Open are correct. The President takes an oath to support and defend the Constitution. The "will of the people" is arbitrary and often wavers. The Constitution does not.

Neither.

He owes an allegiance to the country, even those people who voted against him.

Polls are meaningless.

They are supposed to vote a combination of the will of the people and their own conscience... The problem is most of them forget the will of the people as soon as the campaign is over and they've been announced as the winner.

The President is sworn to do what is best for the country.
That's what Bush is doing.
Clinton didn't care. He just did what was fun for himself.
