Tums is a lot cheaper and does the same thing) but NOTHING ELES! Unless the doctor says so. (The Tums Smoothies tropical fruit flavor says for pregnant womon can have a maxium of 5 tablets a day.)

When I was pregnant with my son I suffered from horrible heartburn and was taking the maximum allowed of Tums on some days. My doctor said it was alright to take that many but not to make it into an every day thing. This time around I've been told the same thing about Tums, but am not needing them as much.

If she fears safety I would have her talk to her doctor first but while I was prego I lived on TUMS. I had heartburn all day and the only thing that helped was a little milk and a couple TUMS. My doc gave me the safety ok so personally I would say yes it is safe but if she is nervous I would just give the doc office a call. Hope that helps!

I lived off Tums while pregnant! BTW it's a great source of calcium. My baby was healthy, in fact the Dr. said he was very strong at his 2 month check up. Don't know if all the Tums contributed...lol

Yes, most people on here will suggest Tums or Rolaids which work great, and I take the generic version of Tums from Walgreens (which the phamacist told me is just as safe)

My doctor said it is safe to take Tums and the like, but if she wants to take something stronger, ask her doctor. It's a common thing to have heartburn during pregnancy.

I too was told that Tums was safe. I discovered that my prenatal vitamins were causing heartburn and switched brands and time of day that I took them. I noticed a big improvement.

Yes, it's safe and thank GOD for that because I'm suffering from the same thing. I get it so bad that I could cry. Tums are a wonderful thing.

Do doctors not tell their patients anything anymore? Or is it that the patients just aren't listening!
I got a list of meds that were safe to take when I was pregnant.
Most any OTC antacids are on the safe list.
