Hmm well my Mum thinks its genetic, because my father was Bi.

But would anyone really want to choose to be in a minority that is so hated that there are people out there who would actually kill you because of who you choose to love?

Hi, well speaking from personal experience i knew i was a lesbian from the age of 13. Didnt tell anyone or do anything about it till i was 21. (I'm 29 now). I had boyfriends but my feelings (sexually) towards other females was much more stronger. So i was born gay.

However, Who in their right mind would CHOOSE to be gay with all the stigmas, fears and violent acts directed toward gays by society? In some cases people can choose to be gay. If a man or m=woman has never had any luck in straight relationships they sometimes turn to those of the same sex. Even if it's just for an experiment. Sometimes this makes them realise they are not bi or gay but they are straight, they just haven't found the right person yet (of opposite sex). I know of 3 guys in this situation and 1 girl.

Also, in some cases, girls or guys may fullfill a sexual fantasy with their partner......lets say for an example boyfriend wants his girlfriend to sleep with another woman. This is ok but sometimes it can go very wrong (for the guy). She may enjoy it more than he had hoped and been fullfilled more than he had ever please her, so as it happened to my best mate with his girlfriend, shes left him for another woman.

Everyones different. Some will never try it or think about it. Some will only ever think about it and some will go all the way.

But you CAN be born that way.

You find homosexuals in every single segment of society, from rich to poor to proud to humble to secular to religious. Admittedly there is an element of choice in my sexual orientation because I choose to feel and express the gay half of myself but I cannot imagine why anyone could seriously believe that homosexuals in Iran would choose to be gay, or homosexuals in Southern Texas for that matter. You get gay Jews, Muslims and Christians throughout history, even when they risked death by being gay. Simple logic would suggest that these people never chose a sexuality that they were aware of as sinful perversion. Right?

The longer I live the more I feel that its actually genetic.

I have a child who is gay, and have taken up Geneology, and checking out family history, it actually seems it does follow along a family line, although they did not talk about it years ago, its certainly not a matter of choice.

Although I have been told, that few would actually chose be straight if given a magic wish. They are WHAT they are, and WHO they are.

We are all Gods children, none of us were given the choice before we were born, about who or what we were gonna be, black, white, poor, rich, straight or gay were we?

i hope ur teacher wasnt doing this debate as this was risky for your teacher to do as kids are cruel. anyway...

its been said before, but why would someone choose to be gay???? ANNNNNDDDDD, at the end of the day - do straight people choose to be straight??? No, your just turned on by either same sex or opposite sex (or both if bisexual) as part of genetics. Some str8s think we choose cos they think its 'not normal' but thats only cos they dont know what its like. To be honest I hate ignorant homophobes cos at the end of they day they say we choose to be gay when they actually dont know what its like to experience what gays go through. And its not a perverted disease.

Im not having a go at you btw as I know you were only asking a question, Im just letting the bigots out there know!!!

There's research to suggest it's just like being left or right handed, so genetic.
It's only your choice whether you act on your feelings or not.Not an easy choice at all tho.

Our class had a similar debate.I felt like i might as well have had a big neon sign on my head saying "confused person right here!" lol

"i heard that there is an injection u can get before your child is born to make sure they are straight. or turn them straight if they might turn gay. its weird"

what you heard was a news story on a minister (I THINK he is the head of a Christian University) who conceded that the root of being homosexual MAY in fact be in vivo hormone exposure, or genetic. (This p1ssed off the religious right, because their "gay threat" posturing is based on gays choosing to be gay)
He also stated it MAY be possible to SOMEDAY "treat" the fetus with drugs or hormones to make the child develop as a heterosexual (This p1ssed of the leftie gays, on the basis that they don't think there's anything to "treat" since there's nothing wrong with being gay)
Also, EVEN IF it were one day possible, do you want to be the mom who 1st exposes their naturally developing fetus to experimental hormone or drugs? Bring on the hermaphrodites!

I don't really think "genetic" is the right word, it's not in your genes. but it's not something you choose either. it's just something that creeps up on you unawares and then you just realise it.

I would have to say genetics. Who would choose to be gay and be hated, misunderstood, prejudiced against, loss of civil rights, and murdered. Would you?
