I just read this quote from one of the recently captured UK soldiers, addressing the UK Parliment:

"Isn't it time to start withdrawing our forces from Iraq and let them determine their own future?"

Now, I am an American, so I could be off. But to me this does not sound like something a coalition soldier would say, not in the least. What are your thoughts? Genuine, or really from the mouths of the Iranian government?

Clearly they are scripted. I watched Seaman Faye Turney's televised statement on liveleak.com, and I have no doubt that she was told exactly what to say. I remember seeing a similar confession by a U.S. airman captured during the Gulf War. I understand that, in these circumstances, soldiers are instructed to behave in a manner that will keep them alive and well until they can be released.
Notice that Seaman Turney was dressed not in her own uniform, but in clothing considered acceptable for Iranian TV. This was done at least partly for domestic consumption, in an effort to rally the people around Ahmadinejad, since he is not very popular.

i think of Russia, China, and ecu weak spot on Iran's nuclear software is why they felt formidable sufficient to take British hostages. Iran does not dare to clutter with the two the U.S. or the U.ok. if it weren't for Europe persevering with to prop Iran up by using fact of Iranian oil. Russia likes to play spoiler to something the U.S. does, so they gave the Iranians a wink and a nod (insurance that no longer something will ensue in the UN risk-free practices council). As for China, they are no person's pal yet their very own, and that they like Iranian oil besides. So that is all concerning the oil. as long as Iran has it, and Europe and China prefer it, neither Britain nor the U.S. can assume any severe help. that's what's making Iran sense that it may escape with something at the instant, in spite of two provider conflict communities and the biggest concentration of U.S./U.ok. firepower on earth actual around the corner. the ideal answer is to call their bluff on the hostages and notice how far they're going to take it. anybody is unquestionably-known with Iran is inaccurate, they intentionally set an ambush to seize some British hostages, and the longer they carry them, the extra the international condemns them. exceptionally whilst Iran instruments the hostages up on television to make stupid statements. i think of if Britain refuses to backtrack and could no longer reward Iran via "apologizing", then Iran will would desire to return sparkling and end their stupid gamble. via bombing Iran, we can purely reward their martyr complicated and international opinion will see Iran as a sufferer. that's what the Iranian regime needs us to do! and that's precisely why we would desire to continually no longer do something militarily, except they harm the hostages.
