It is our human nature, but I would like to think that if people understood why it is human nature, they might stop discriminating.

To not trust "others" would be natural in prehistoric times. Humans evolved to be suspicious of strangers. It is an evolutionary safety system. If people can learn and understand why they themselves discriminate and mistrust those who look different or speak different, maybe they will gradually stop discriminating.
