Take the natural log of both sides:
ln[3^x] = ln[1/(9^2)] = ln[9^(-2)]
x ln[3] = -2 ln[9] = -2 ln[3^2] = -2(2) ln[3]
x = -4 ln[3]/ln[3] = -4
