The 2-3 is being used by a few AAA teams, and sometimes gets the pitcher a balk. Umpires get confused and don't really have any other way to catagorize it. Can it become a mainstay of the infield defense, or a trick to pull when you're struggling and don't care?

the 2-3 pick-off is a play where the catcher throws to first base usualy and the runner at first base is caught off the base by the first baseman. If a balk is called then, the play rewards the runner at first or at what ever base he was at, to move up one. Im not sure a runner can score from third on a balk unless the bases are loaded. if the umpire is fooled into a balk, I would have to guess that the players figured that at least they had a chance to get the runner at third

2-3 pickoff as in the catcher throwing down the line? I don't see a problem with that in terms of it being a rule violation but its only going to work very occasionally. 3-2 I don't understand. Do you mean the catcher following the runner down the line or something to take a throw from the first baseman after the runner has reached base safely and then taken his lead? That sounds like a gimmicky play and I don't think it would work too often.

What exactly is a 3-2 pickoff?? 2-3 made sense, catcher to first, but I saw no reason for that not to be allowed.

But how would there be a pick-off from the first baseman to the catcher. No one hangs out at home waiting to run. And what does the pitcher have to do with it?

Not really sure what you mean, but though the rulebook addresses many instances regarding pickoffs and there is a catch-all. And that catch-all is: any move by the pitcher intended to "deceive" the runner or batter is a balk. Thus, it eliminates the need to address every possible trick someone can think of.

A 2-3 pickoff is the catcher picking of the baserunner at first.

If that's not what you mean, then please clarify. In the meantime, if you check the link below, you can learn how to score games, and you can ask your question have it make sense.

A 3-2 p/o simply can't exist. There is no need to try to p/o the batter.

Sure it is a legal play as long as you do not balk
