After changing my oil, my oil pressure gauge shows that there is no oil. What's wrong? I replaced the plug and filter, put in 6 quarts of oil into a 97 Jeep Cherokee and I let it sit for a while, started it up and my oil pressure showed 0. There were no leaks so I don't think it's a gasket. Any suggestions of what might be wrong with it. I started it and let it run for a while thinking that it just needed to build up some pressure, and it still showed 0 this morning. I guess I'm confused because I've never had this problem before. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Just so everyone knows, I read the manual on how much oil to put in and it said 6 quarts. Also, I have checked the dip stick and it shows to be at the safe line and that there is oil in it.

Sounds to me like your oil pressure sending unit has gone out. It's a fairly common thing, but generally a huge pain to replace.

6 quarts thats a lot of oil are you sure about the capacity?? Over filling is not a good thing can blow the seals out. However I digress sounds to me that the oil sending unit is bad??

You may have knocked the wire off the oil pressure sending unit at the oil filter mounting base.

there is a bad thing.if You have 0 pressure for real, You may spoil the engine.

remove the oil pressure sensor and connect the tester pressure.(first thing in the morning!!!)

the filter You had install is not good.

that's the two low oil rigidity or a undesirable gauge. in simple terms hook up an oil rigidity tester to the engine and verify oil rigidity and analyze to the specs out of alldata or mitchell.

hi, i trust that you poured the new oil into the right place and not into the radiator or transmission. check the dip stick and check oil level... if ok,,, check the oil pressure sender unit connection.. it might have been knocked off. :)

Could be you disturbed the connector on the oil pressure switch (right next to oil filter). Or pressure swtitch has failed.
