good chance that it is not the speedo but rather the speedo sensor that went bad.

the speedo sensor is very easy to change, it is a black cylindrical plug on the top of your transmission case to the rear of the back cylinder. It has a black wire coming out of it.

you unclip the wire from its harness and remove the single bolt securing it to the case and it comes right off. very easy, part costs $50US.

the real question is why did it fail in the first place?

if you just had a bad sensor then you'll be good to go, if the failure is symptomatic of another problem then you will have just wasted $50.

My personal advice is, if you are not good with electrical then you might be better off letting a pro look at it, chances are they will warranty the work.

I'm gonna agree with all three so far.
Shop manual will tell how to check sender and speedo.
Will also show how to install/connect new part.
Chances are the wiring is just plug and play.

$60 an hour? They get $75 out here.
(so does Honda)

yup. shop manuals are ur friend. u'd be able to easily do this job on ur own with 1. worth the 50 bucks...which is 10 dolla cheaper than 1 hour of shop time over here.
