The movie 'Apollo 13' was very accurate. It was based on the book written by one of the men that went on this mission.

Probably the best source of facts on the Apollo 13 mission is the book "Lost Moon." It is Lovell's memoir of what happened on the mission and includes detailed time lines.

So what do I know about it. The command module was named Odyssey while the lunar module was named Aquarius. There were three members of the crew commander James A. Lovell, pilot John L. Swigert, and lunar pilot Fred W. Haise. They launched on April 11, 1970. The lunar landing was canceled due to an on board explosion, and they successfully landed in the Pacific Ocean on April 17, 1970 at 18:07:41 UTC. The mission lasted 142 hours 54 min 41 sec.

Apollo 13, Commanded by James A. Lovell Jr. was to be the third mission to land on Mars but a malfunction forced the cancellation and the mission was aborted after 56 hours of flight due to the loss of the service module and was forced to return to earth. The astronauts had to use the lunar module as a "lifeboat" and there were problems with rising carbon dioxide levels in it because it wasn't designed to hold 3 men for so long. The spare CO2 filters wouldn't fit in the slot in the lunar module. That's where the tape came in.

1. It was ment to be the 3rd lunar landing, but an oxygen tan k exploded and they had to user the moon's gravity to get a 'free return' back home. Very nearly ended in disaster.
