Do you like the way Walmart treats their employees? Why or why not?

I was a cashier at WalMart for 7 years and overall, I liked it. In spite of the claim that it attracts rednecks, I've seen people from all walks of life come through my line.

As far a schedules were concerned, it depended on who was doing the schedule. One guy got all the registers covered & gave people the time off they needed. Others weren't as good at it.

Working in a retail store it tough. You have to stay nice when customers grumble & blame you for stuff. The hours aren't too predictable. If it is slow in your department another department will "borrow" you to help them stock or something.

I think all the people who complain about "slave labor" are just not used to working.

I worked at walmart for about 6 months. At first it was fun. I worked in the toy department with another woman and the toy department supervisor.. After the other woman quit because her home was finally done being rebuild in florida after a hurricane, I was left to do everything in the department except all the ordering and deciding where everything went with re arranging of the department, I had to put everything on the shelves, just not put the shelves up. It got rediculious, then when christmas time came, they said they were going to hire someone else and never did.. I was stuck running the whole department working long hours and still got yelled at because my department wasn't spotless... It was bull. Everyone there was over worked and underpaid. The people in other departments would start to yell at me because they had to come help every night to clean up, they'd just pick up the toys from the aisles and throw them on the shelves, not caring if that was the toy's home or not, then the next day a customer would scream at me because the toy was on this shelf at this spot and they didn't get it for that price. Or things that we were holding for people, other people would take the sticker with the other persons name on it off and take off with the product. I worked at the store where a guy shot himself in the parking lot, the worker that found him in his car, got a couple days off... unpaid... and they didn't send him to counseling because only managers can afford to have the extra money taken out for insurance... It's rediculous to work there unless you're a "hire-up" person... I still shop there, but as little as posibleand am always curtious to the people that help me. I prefer target.

I hate Walmart. Yes you can save a lot of money there, but I'd rather spend extra money than to shop in a trashy store. Most the Walmarts I've ever seen are totally crappy and cheep. Just look at what the way the employees dress, and what cars they drive. You know they are not getting paid enough for what they do. Standing on their feet all day dealing with crazy customers.

I worked at Walmart 1 1/2 years ago in East Windsor, CT. Two things. my father had a heart attack and i gave them 6 hours notice that I wasn't coming in. they still wrote it down as an unexcused abscence. Then the head gasket on my car blew and it would be a week till I could get another car and I had no ride. I gave them plenty of notice and told them I would be back in a week and they said get here or you're fired. I said how? they said take a cab. I said you don't have to fire me, I quit. Walmart does not care about its employees at all. It is a shitty company to work for.

I don't work there.
I don't like how I feel in the parking lots. I don't like the big lines. But I like the merchandise, so I sometimes order from my computer. It's been a good experience so far. Good price, on time delivery and got what I was promised.
I don't know how they treat their employees for sure, but from the news, if there is so much adversity, then there's definitely room for improvement.

I've worked at Wal-mart for over 3 years. Some things I like, some not. Because of bad management in the past, Wal-mart has taken away alot of discretion that mgmt used to have, such as coding absences as "excused" or "unexcused". Really, the store is only going to be as good as the workers and mgmt. I've worked with alot of good people and I've workled with people that are only interested in "collecting" a paycheck, not working for it.
Retail is tough...there's lots of customers that are a**holes no matter how much you try to help. Others are really nice and really make my day when I can help them out.

I worked at wal mart for 2 yrs. I liked it ok. I like working with other people and how many people you get to meet. Don't get me wrong, some you don't want to meet. The main manager was good to us, but the ones lower down were hateful and passes the buck on. Plus not a very good place to work if you need a certain schedule or go to college. They are suppose to work with you and say they will, but when you get in there, they don't give a s*** about you. They want to get the less amount of people to work, and work you to death.

I don't work at Walmart. Walmart attracts rednecks and ghetto people for some reason. Target is much better. Not sure how Walmart treats their employees, but I bet the employees are greedy and they think somebody owes them something so they throw the race card or gender card whenver something doesn't go their way.
