Perhaps its a little harsh but Thailand has a harsh justice system, especially towards foriegners it seems. But even the King himself seems to be on his side
Having said that the bloke has lived there for 10 years, he should have some idea of the law!

When in Rome you do as the Romans do, you do not insult someone who is classed as a god by the locals, then expect to get away with it. He is a resident, so he knows the rules, no excuses or p.c. types tolerated over there. They live in the real world and make the laws for the general well being of the locals, if some clever dick tries it on and comes unstuck, you can bet your sweet life he will not even think of doing it again. Shame they don't try it over here, if we had any prisons left.

It does seem a bit harsh but ive been to Thailand when they celebrate the kings birthday and they worship him like buddah.... that bloke has been there for ten years so must have known what would happen.

Its harsh, yes, but is their law in their country and any person living within the boundaries of that country should respect the law of whatever nation it is and be willing to pay the consequence for not upholding it.

I definitely agree that the sentence is a bit harsh - although I sometimes wonder though would our country be a better place if the legal system was a bit harsher!!

It is harsh by our standards, but actually very lenient in Thailand, where the king is revered.

Think back.
Iran sentenced the author Salman Rushdie to DEATH for his book Satanic Verses.
At least this is humane.

No, that is ridiculous. Vandalism, okay, he could be required to clean it up, but I hope this causes a change in the law.
