Think about it; our economy would probably rise because we have something else bringing in employment. Less people would be on welfare because this is a career many of these people could have. I'm saying if we legalize and regulate prostitutuion, more people could have a job.

I'm going to say no. Not because I don't believe that consenting adults can do what they want but more because in other cultures where it is legal (or condoned) in some form, a lot of harm comes from it. In southeast Asian countries, authorities turn their heads as a lot of young girls and boys are basically sold into prostitution by their families for money. Birth certificates and documents are forged. These kids really are given no choice and they are not consenting adults. People will forge health certificates. STDs will spread even with regular health checks because it takes time for them to show up on tests. Underage persons will look for prostitutes even more than they do now and just like alcohol, they will get access. Neighborhoods where sex-related businesses are now already allowed such as adult bookstores and theaters always experience economic decline - legal prostitution will only make this worse. Many people use prostitution as a way to support a drug habit. We can say we will regulate it to keep it safe, but the bad people of the world will just find a way around that. Better to ban it altogether and prevent the bad side effects on society. If adult prostitutes operate low key underground to avoid prosecution, then so be it.

Full employment through prostitution? Rings sort of hollow to me. It is degrading for the prostitute. Most of them are controlled by pimps. Making it legal won't do away with that. But, something other than the economy might rise.

One valid reason to legalize it is HIV. Requiring prostitutes to have frequent check ups could be very helpful. But that raises the issue of contracting HIV on the job. Does she get unemployment then?

I agree 100 %. It would better the economy. Its legal in Nevada, the girls have to be tested weekly, if they arent clean they cant work...... They also give out free condoms.

It would cut down on the welfare greatly. Hell all these little tramps that jump from bed to bed and have sex with different partners, they do it for free. Why not let them charge and pay their own way in life.

They get pregnant the government has to pay for the next 18+year, because alot of them dont even know who the father is to get any support money from them.....

If they were getting paid to do it, they wouldnt have to depend on the government, and would be the only way these women would EVER pay taxes.

The moral and economic case for the legalization of prostitution is overwhelming! So what the heck are do you mean economy will rise?!

Prostitution?...One word, IMMORAL.

First of all, having sex with someone you're not married to is WRONG! Prostitution is PURE filth...Selling your body? I can't believe you're a woman and you're saying this...

Teenagers my age are slowly falling into the ways of the world I've noticed and it's a shame. Adults today need to start teaching the RIGHT things. Making prostitution legal will only complicate things even further.

Let me tell you why Prostitution shouldn't be legalized (are you drunk?):

1.The rising threat of AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases has become one of the most compelling arguments for the complete legalization of prostitution.

-Clearly, the spread of AIDS would be reduced by the decriminalization of prostitution services.

2. Like the all-too-publicized war on drugs, the war on prostitution is yet another battle being waged with tax dollars rather than common sense. Let's look at the price tag for a moment. It is estimated that one in every ten police officers works on vice-related activities. Currently, it is assumed that as much as one-half of a typical urban city's prison female population are prostitutes.

This list can go on with why prostitution shouldn't be leagalized, I won't even get into that. Soliciting sexual favors for money is downright pitiful. How would or country look? America is supposed to be "the better life"? If we have people like you running around fighting for immorality, this country will never be what it should be.

I feel sorry for the women who are prostitutes. I hope they wake up and realize that they're better than that! Sex is a gift, not a product to market!!

I believe they should legalize just on the grounds that it can then be regulated. There by requiring prostitutes to get licenses be tested regularly and treated for any possible STD. The economy wont change just because its legalized either just its another job the government can tax.

as it stands human slave trade still happens not just here but the rest of the world whether people want to deny it or not. Prostitutes are still here regardless of it being illegal. STD and Drug use are rampant amount prostitutes and by regulating it STDs and Drugs should be in a decline not just amoung them but also the general population as well.

Edit:
what test in nevada are they giving that it takes up to seven years for HIV to show up? sorry but with current test it takes 3-6months tops.

There are other countries that have prostitution legalized and it is actually a very regulated business. Less spread of diease, more organized. They aren't considered criminals and it's ok for the women who do it. They have right s and unions just like everyone else. I believe, if it can be done properly in America, then by all means, go for it. I believe that it would be easier if it were.

Less violence assoicated with it as well.

Yeah, more people would have jobs but more people would have AIDS also. Think about it. Some married man would get a whore, have sex with her, get an STD and then bring it home and give it to his wife. In parts of Nevada there is legal prostitution. They give the girls STD test but the problem with that is that it can take up to 7 years for the HIV virus to show up on the test.

YES! Has criminalizing this "oldest profession" helped anyone? Changed the availability of prostitutes in any major city. Legalization would provide education, medical testing, and a safer environment for everyone.

Most of prostitution happening these days is on line ads and two consenting adults meeting at a private location. myredbook.com It is happening anyways. in communities with strict morals against sexual expression there is an increase in rape and incest. give men a place to release this energy in an appropriate safe way. think of the income tax these women can contribute to the community.

criminal focus needs to be on the underage being taken advantage of. even with an on line community of independent sex workers growing still young girls get involved with pimps and are taken advantage of. this is where LE is needed.

It will most likely never happen. Just like some currently illegal drugs that would probably be OK on the list of legal items, this is one thing that will be beat to death politically before it's ever legalized.

Arguments over religious, health, legal, and moral affects will ensure that it never happens. Whether or not it is a good thing, in any way, is completely irrelevant.

Since when do any facts or the truth have anything to do with what politicans say or do?

I think it would lead to more abortions, and for those prostitutes that did get pregnant and didn't want to abort it would mean she goes on welfare (again) and/or unemployment until the child is born and able to be without its mother.

Here in California we have maternity leave for expecting mothers and those with newborns. But most occupations don't have a job risk which includes pregnancy.
