i intend to go to texas tech school of pharmcy, i'm currently a high school senior, i checked their website, and it said you do not need a batchelors to get admitted. they also gave a list of their prerequisites, and mentioned the college or university you fulfilled them in didn't matter. they also listed a numerous amout of school where you can fulfil these pre-reqs, and el-centro college was one. is there any disadvantage taking my pre-reqs at a community college? how can i also get pharmacy experience before applying to pharm school?

Yes you can fulfill your prereqs for pharmacy school at a community college. I would recommend this route if you would like to stay close to home and save money. While completing these classes you can either volunteer or look for part-time employment at a local hospital and/or retail pharmacy, letting your employer know of your intent of becoming a pharmacist. After completing the required courses in the 2 years, it would be best to apply for pharmacy school and go through the whole process. If accepted you're on your way... If not I would suggest continuing your education to earn a bachelor's degree in a chemistry or biology related major. Then reapply the next cycle. Best wishes!!

Sure you can. There are actually quite a few pharmacy programs that are 6 years, only 2 of which are in undergrad.

The only downside is that pharmacy is pretty competitive. Community colleges aren't as rigorous as regular 4 yr schools, so your grades won't look as impressive. However, in many states, that's still alright for the pharm schools.

For pharm experience, just volunteer or get a part time job at a pharmacy. It's not a big deal.

Yes many doctorate programs do not require you to have a bachelors to get into their program. I believe that its a great choice to attend a community college if that is an option for you. My concern would be to look at the matriculation rate and the scores that students from Elcentro college are getting on the (Pharmacy College Admissions Test -PCAT). If the curriculum is not demanding enough at Electro I would look at other colleges and universities. As far as experience...you can get a job as a pharm tech at any local pharmacy - Walmart, Walgreens, CVS etc.

In theory, you can get accepted by just going to community college, but reality states, unless you have a near flawless GPA and PCAT, it is very hard. They are lying when they say they view 4 year schools as equal to community colleges because that is not the way things are.
In Texas, you have to be certified to be a pharm tech.
