Less money for terrorists?

Less tacit or overt support to the House of Saud?

Not exactly, but the affect would indeed be as you state - less money getting laundered or routed to terrorists and less obsequious treatment of the House o' Saud.

Unfortunately, I still think terrorism would be a scourge - but being more energy-independent will allow us to rebalance morality and practicality in foreign policy.

No. They would just find another excuse to hate us. Look at all the problems France has had with "youths" in the past few years and they are one of the most energy independent nations in the world.

Most certainly we would. Im not foolish enough to think there would be none. There still would be, but it would be less.

Alot of the money that comes from the oil we buy from teh middle east ends up eventually in the hands of orchestrators, promoters or harborers of terrorism.

Oil money paid for 9/11 and we use 25% of the world's consumption. That would be a big hole in terrorist funding.

No, but it'd be a good starting point. The radical "Islamist" terrorists are pissed because we have US military bases and forces in their holy lands. They're also pissed because of the US government's unquestioning support of Israel, to the point of blocking UN resolutions against the Israeli government's actions..

Not really. One has nothing to do with the other.

Terrorism is a concept as old as civiliation. We have always been vulnerable to terrorist attacks, and the number of attacks has steadily increased in direct relation to your involvement in the affairs of other countries. The more we interfere, the more others hate us. That's not going to change either.

Yes, but not for the reasons you cite.
Achieving energy independence would reduce U.S. meddling in mideastern affairs. However they will probably never be our friends again.

Terrorist are against us because of our arrogance and meddling in middle eastern affairs.

Of course I do. The problem is getting the big oil people to go along with it.
