It is this great grass that doesn't need much water in full sun and it is not the fescue turf stuff that I can get at Home Depot.

Most counties in all states have a USDA Agricultural extension. Find out the location nearest to you and bring them in a sample. Look in the phone book under United States, then Department of Agriculture and then cooperative extension. These phone numbers can be b...t to find because the government is really good at hiding its buildings and phone numbers.

Here is a site that has pictures of "warm" and "cool" season grasses, along with growing habits of each type.. Click onto the "Turf Types" on the upper left window and it will show different types of grasses with pics. You may be able tell just what you have growing. It sounds like you have a warm season grass if it doesn't need much watering. Possibly "St. Augustine" maybe. Good luck!

Try the agriculture department of your local university. They will usually do this type of stuff for free.

Look in the gov't listings in your yellow pages and find county extension and call they should give you an answer, they can ID just about everything.
